I love Chusco!

His Alegrias is one of my favourite pieces!
Just like you described, amazing compositions and technique. The man has his own universe.

Chuscales is an amazing player. I remember walking into Thirsty Bear here in San Francisco and seeing him play with El YiYi on cajon and cante. At the time I was new to the city and didn't know the local flamenco performers other Jason McGuire and Yaelisa. So, I thought who the f**K is this guy? I was blown away by his playing and thought he was a local phenomenon other than Jason. So, I didn't see him again for over year when I got the opportunity to see him perform with Theatre Flamenco. I didn't know who Chuscales was until I saw him on the stage and it all came together, he was who I saw at the free weekly event at Thirsty Bear. Now I try to see him perform any time he is in the Bay Area and was fortunate to see him accompany this past fall.

I don't know why he isn't well known either. Perhaps it is because he is based in Santa Fe, NM and other more well known players such as Jason is based in a major U.S. city. Also, I bought one of his CD's and I really don't like it - just doesn't grab me. Prefer Jason's CD and I really like Ricardo Marlow's CD (the best CD of any American Flamenco Artist...imho) Perhaps his CD's aren't well received. Moreover, some artists are better at promotion than others regardless of spectacular skill and ability.

Yeah I'm another huge fan of his. I've taken a lesson from him in Santa Fe and all I can say is that he IS the embodiment of flamenco (for me anyway). He's got these anguish-filled gray eyes that can only be a product of generations of persecution (yes I'll admit I have a man-crush ;-P ). It's pretty disheartening that he's not more well known, but the same goes for Jason McGuire as well.

I agree that his compositions are great, and hearing him say 'eso es' is as good a sound as the clang of silverware when you're starving.

Chusco is teaching at the Festival Flamenco Internacional in Albuquerque (June 8-12).
See http://www.ffinm.org

I saw him performing last week with Yjastros.

Great shows and great classes.

I have one of his albums. Guess what? It's been produced by Ottmar Liebert! [8D][:D] The two tracks I like the most on that disc (I believe one is a granaina) though are the ones that are pure Chusco, whereby Ottmar didn't chime in with his incessant bass harmonics, and "exotic" percussion sounds and effects. [:D]

Cheers!
