Ruphus -> Someone here informed on international biz situation? (Apr. 6 2011 13:13:50)

A friend of mine had taken a folded picnic table to the country side. And as many people started asking him where he got that table from, he came to the idea of possibly importing such and asked me to kindly investigate about supply in the internet.

I found out that these products seem mainly delivered from China, however all I could find have been trading .ltd companies.
Considering the scam that meanwhile has widely established in China ( questionable biz policies and little ways to research on trading companie´s reputation ) I tried to directly contact manufacturers in China.

However, every time that I thought to have found out names of manufacturers their URL turned out to be invalid.

Finally, it showed that certain table models are actually being manufactured in Chile / only passed on by Chinese traders.
So, I went and tried to google Chilean manufacturers to no avail.

In the end, I thought of inquiring at the Chilean Chamber of Trade & Commerce, once again with no internet presentation to be found of it.
All that you find are things like "American-Chilean Chamber of Commerce", "Canadian-Chilean Chamber of Commerce", "British-Chilean Chamber of Commerce", "German-Chilean Chamber of Commerce" etc.

Anyone here got an idea what´s up with that?

Has the trading guild with its tradition of wedging itself between demand and supply in the meantime managed to completely suppress direkt routes / contact to ( Third-World-) manufacturers?

Ruphus,

Years ago, while in the U.S. diplomatic service, I served at the American Embassy in Santiago, Chile. Wonderful country, and Chile produces very good products. My advice would be to contact the Embassy of Chile in your country and request the information you need. If there is no Chilean Embassy in your country, find out where the nearest one is and telephone or E-mail your request. Most countries' Embassy now have websites with contact information.

Cheers,

Bill

Thank you for the kind advice, Bill.
That would be an option to consider.

Still, I am puzzled with the above described conditions ( not for the first time, had similar paradox with other product researches before.)
While years ago finding manufacturers on the net seemed so easy.
And the curious opacity appears to steadily progress, while you´d think the internet would progressively help with product and price finding.

From there, should someone here know some more on the subject it should be interesting to learn how comes the paradoxum.

You may want to try http://www.alibaba.com/
It looks like an aggregator for the chinese manufacturers. A quick search for folding picnic table returns 1436 results.

Thank you.
I know Alibaba and other thelike sites, but they would only turn out sellers; no manufacturer of those tables.

Thank you for the hint.

I am just wondering why manufacturers can´t be found on the internet anymore.
