VietFlamenco -> Removing Tap Plate on French Polish (Apr. 1 2011 6:53:41)

My Salvador Castillo just arrived 2 days ago. It is such a wonderful instrument. However, the delivery was made to me during a heat wave in my city. This caused that tap plate to bubble and deform during transport. It is not economical to ship this back to the luthier for repair. The guitar would be perfect without this imperfection.

The guitar is french polished. I've heard there could be issues with trying to remove the tap plate from french polish. It is a spruce top if it matters. Is it possible to remove it cleanly and reinstall a new plate? I plan on taking it to a professional for the work. How much would something like this cost to fix?

This has been covered before. IIRC FP can stick to the tap plate--esp. if it is new and still soft. A luthier will use naphtha (lighter fluid) to separate the golpeador from the top.
