I was just thinking, Americans call Petrol "Gas", so what do you guys call the stuff you use for central heating, cookers etc? [:-]

Anyway, how much are you guys paying for Petrol now per Gallon?

Here it's getting to be like $10 if my calcs are right (£1.35/litre) and going up every week.

Long gone are the days when you filled your car up for a tenner and still got change enough for a packet of cigs.

It only seems a little while ago they were saying that the pumps were going to have a problem since the maximum price they were made to cope with was 99.99 pence.

Now look how much it's risen since then.

Jeez it's a bloody luxury these days to drive a car and yet they are pumping the stuff up from below the sea bed only 200 miles from where I am.

They are both referred to as gas. I guess the car version can also be called fuel but gas is pretty much what everyone says.

Here in San Francisco the prices I've seen are about $4/gallon, depending on which grade you want (higher octane ratings = more $$$).

Everyone's complaining about it and I've heard many predict the price will go up to $5/gallon.

Guess it's time to buy a bicycle...

In Canada, gas in the car, gas for heating your house if you use natural gas, and for older houses that still use 'petrol' we call it oil but I'm not sure anyone in major cities still uses that, most have converted to natural gas.
When we say petrol we mean the stuff that is pumped or refined.
