britguy -> 'Brightness' vs 'Sustain' - mutually incompatible??? (Mar. 20 2011 20:56:17)

I'm contemplating having a custom build in the near future, and am wondering if a good builder can get crisp brightness in the trebles, plus also achieve good sustain. I play mostly solo flamenco and some classical, and would like some sustain in the higher registers - but not at the expense of muddy rasguedos.

Assuming that ( like everyone else) I would also like a really strong bass, are these requirements mutually incompatible? What choice of woods would best suit my requirements?

I dont see any problems. I have a Negra that is more or less what you say. Its very flamenco but it needs a very good tecnique in order to do what you want. But then it really sings.

Agree, Brightness doesn't come at the loss of sustain. Bright classical guitars are a testiment to that!

Awell balanced instrument is just that. strong bases and strong trebles!

Hi Anders,

What kind of negra is that? Big dry sound a la Conde or more like a Bellido negra?
Thanks.
Saludos

Its a very typical example of the better Anders Eliasson Negras. (maybe the best)
[:D]
Its definately not like a Bellido.
