I've just had and idea and took my cheap guitar and changed the treble into normal nylon hard tensions and the bass into .010 steel string basses :D

Sounds really bright and punchy to me! And my brother preferred that one over the other normal stringed, better quality guitar's sound.

Of course we know very little about flamenco.

I know many of you will be screaming but please try it out first and tell me what you think :D

After trying it out, please feel free to flame me --- and please include reasons too.

Edit: I've just used the same 0.010s but used strings 3-5 as my 4-6 and the tension is just slightly higher than the nylon one. Will try 0.009 when I buy them.

My sister preferred the more expensive, normally stringed guitar when the room was smaller. But it was the trebles that sounded better and more solid since those were slightly higher tension.

Hi,
I doubt many will try it. It will probably overstress your guitar and wear out your nails. Cool though if you are happy with it.

hey.. not sure if u know.. but strings for steel string guitars used on a nylon string guitar would exert more tension on the neck, causing it to bow forward.. not a good idea mate..

cheers

Change'em back, before you wake up and find your guitar in two pieces. [;)]

Ah you're right I changed them back. Thanks for the warnings.

What about this? I've just used the same 0.010s but used strings 3-5 as my 4-6 and the tension is just slightly higher than the nylon one.

I'll get some 0.009 and try the same thing :D I think that might be ok, judging by how hard the 0.010s are compared to my high tension nylons.

Thinking over, they were a bit too punchy earlier. Now it's better.

I thought about doing the same but on my steel string guitar but ... I need different type of nylon strings for that. And furthermore, I've tried nylon guitars which have that shape and they sound too much like a steel string guitar.

I'm pleased your having fun , can't see the point of it very well ... but still, if you get anything nice then post a sound clip or vid ....but don't break anything, !!
After all there is a reason that Paco doesn't use steel strings you know.....
[:D]
