Cant seem to find any reviews or comments on the Bartlett clip-on internal guitar mic. Seems to be only available direct from Bartlett.

Anybody here have any experience with this particular mike? Looks pretty neat in the video.

plan is to compare my audio technica pro 70 with the new bartlett and borrow my friends dpa clip on and do a general comparison...
hopefully with some audio...maybe video

still prefer a normal small diaphram condensor mic on a stand ie sennhieser, akg or nuemann but like clip on's for less than ideal gigs or classes...

never one to subscribe as anything being the 'best' just variants and economics
keep you posted...

using clip ons is 'close miking'
somehow the experience of listening to a guitar comes 'out' from the soundboard/soundhole not directly 'in' or 'near it'. i like some ambiance in the sound.
problem with acoustically challenged venues and traditional microphones is simply the 'space'...placement of speakers etc...sometimes you just cant eq the offending frequencies out...
so sometimes my sennhieser condenser is not the best solution...beautiful in concert settings...in reality the loudest and dynamic sound...you just need a quiet audience/venue..and good production.

although i haved also used a pro70 as a clip on for years i am pretty impressed with the natural, uncoloured sound i have heard so far from the bartlett microphones, both live and on video.

still waiting for it to hit australian shores...any day.
still i would recommend anyone the pro 70 as an inexpensive clip on...

I've been using the Bartlett mic now for about 3-4months. No more mic stands for me !
Great for dance classes and perfect for gigs. Best mic i've ever had. I run it through my aER acoustic amp. A Very clean and natural sound.

The mic arrived.
managed a few hours with the guitar mic yesterday.

very high output 'hot' sound. loud is a good word to describe it[:D]
alot of volume before a hint of feedback.
balanced 'natural' uncolored sound.
mic can be placed inside the guitar or on the soundboard.
seems to work best inside. more 'bottom' end. flatter response.
the mic was tried firstly with an AER then through a mackie PA system.
sounded awesome through both with little need for EQ manipulation.
as the unit is phantom powered i did.nt have the opportunity to run it through my baggs pre amp. but did'nt seem to need it anyway.

easy to fit. no hassle.

in comparison to the audio technica pro 70 it does offer a much higher output and less coloured sound. always had issues with lower mid range feedback, 'woof' and tones with the pro 70 [with the baggs and all].
the bartlett IMO is a much more balanced, natural sound, easier to control and a much 'hotter' sound.

in comparision to the dpa 4099g again it offers a higher output but with a similar response. very similar 'balanced' sound. the dpa has more 'placement options' and can only be fitted externally [if you can get the brace to stay on while playing]. soundwise these mics are similiar with the bartlett offering a more 'close mic' sound.

as i purchased the mic for live work i feel i scored a winner.
always prefer my sennhieser K6 but not always practical for every gig.

having used all three 'clip on' type mics i would recommend the bartlett unit in terms of sound and price. it is the cheapest and smallest of the three units and delivers the 'punchiest' sound. also appears to be a much higher 'output' therefore eliminating many feedback problems.

bottom line is these tiny condensors are awesome, easy to use with little need for eq manipulation...loud!!!

O.K. my Bartlett guitar mike arrived yesterday.

Tried it out on three different accoustic amps at a local guitar store.

While I'm a dumb novice with sound systems, all I can say is this little gem makes my old flamenco guitar sound really great. I rented an AudioTechnika Pro70 previously, and WOW what a difference between the two. No bass booms, no feedback screeches, just nice clear accoustic sound.

I mounted mine as recommended in the literature, inside the soundhole, bass side, about 1/2 way down towards the bridge. Moving the clip slightly either way didnt seem to make any significant difference, still sounded great!

Glad I'm on this Forum, I would never have heard of it otherwise. . .

Incidentally Bruce Bartlett answers the phone himself, and is a very helpfull and patient guy. . .

i was completely turned off from all clip ons because of my experience with the pro70 but i'm going to give the bartlett a try.

i just checked their site and they have a new battery version one! you dont have to drill any holes into your guitar anymore.

nothing really beats a good quality, well placed condensor in front of the guitar IMO
unfortunately you really need the right performance space and production to make it work...
things like 'spill' into the mic etc are a real pain for your average tapas type gig..
keen to try a 'blend' of my sennhieser and the bartlett at my next gig...
i am trying to sell my pro 70..my friend who is keen to buy it is borrowing the bartlett for his gig tonight
suggested he buy the guitar mic over my pro 70...dumb sales tactics i know...but...
let us know what you think antonio...
personally out of the three mentioned it would be my choice....not alot of money either...

im not sure what to do with my pro 70 either. it could come in handy as a back up. or maybe be put to work as a cajon mic.

would that work with a mic on a stand? where could i place the speaker so it doesnt get into the side of the mic?
it'd be nice to hear what's coming out of the front of the speakers instead of the back for once. [:D]

just noticed lately that side fill/or slightly behind works a treat in terms of hearing yourself

mine was tested on a 65 and 87 ramirez blanca
and a linea bravo 7 string...
through an aer compact 60 and a mackie pa...

ok guitars in the scheme of things .... love the canins

but yes the dpa has more placement options....giving a more natural 'space' to the sound...for that i would prefer a nuemann, akg or sennhieser or similiar to a dpa...talking similiar dollars..

Got mine going last night with my new SR Technology amp that also just arrived. This was my first experience amplifying flamenco guitar, and it was quite painless.

It took a bit of experimenting to get a feedback-free sound, but I did get there. At first I had the amp on the floor to my right, and the mic clipped at the recommended spot on the bass side inside the guitar just a bit toward the bridge. Sounded boomy and was feeding back fairly easily, so after dinner I put the amp up on a stool behind me to my left and moved the mic to the treble side of the soundhole. The sound was immediately better, so I'm not sure if this was because of the change in amp placement or mic placement or both. I'll have more chance to experiment this weekend. So far, I'm really pleased with the natural sound I was getting at the end of the evening.

AlVal is going to bring one in to my weekly gig for me and let me try it next week ( he always keeps me up to date with mics etc and he always seems to have the best toys... ;-)...i might get one too... he says good things about it...i should be more helpful after

I tried this microphone last night ..

WOW !! i am so impressed ! for something so cheap its freaking brilliant.. better then any other small clip on mics i used before which were more expensive...


it allows more volume before it feeds back...when you tap the guitar it sounds more natural dosent sound like tapping glass which is often the case with those clip on mics...very very good...i am defenetly planning to get one ...is ideal for small venues where feedback and room is a problem

i suggest anyone has one in their collection...u have to pay alot of money to get anything even a little better...last night my strings were quite old and it still managed to put out volume and make it sound good...

Hey Al and all who use this mic. How are you attaching it to your guitars.?......using the clip on the sound hole or placing inside the body of the guitar with tape etc? I had mine inside but it kept falling off, so I'm using the clip at the moment.

that clip attaches on the edge of the soundhole (either at the bottom or the wire behind the body of the guitar and over the top attached to the edge of the soundhole ..like a tie clip...if you lucky it should just slide in
