The first one that jumps to mind is going way way back to Ramon Montoya's tremolo with hammer ons going at the same time. The way the notes rise and then go into the descending arpeggio part is so elegant.

Why not create your own solea' tremolo section? For that matter, why not work up a Solea' using some of your own falsetas? I realize that they must stay within the palo's framework, but a little creativity expands your horizons. That said, it is much easier to do this with a good instructor to help you out. I have the great privilege here in Washington, DC of having Paco de Malaga as my instructor. Paco and I have, together, worked out some very interesting Solea' falsetas that do not depend on Paco de Lucia, Gerardo, or others' pieces. And I want to emphasize that I am not a particularly talented flamenco guitarist. I do work hard at it, though, and that is key. It seems to me that too many budding flamencos just want to replicate someone else's playing. Just a thought.

Cheers,

Bill

Juan Carlos Romero - Azulejo
not only tremolo but is also my all time fav solea. Very modern.

Stu -> RE: favourite solea tremolo?!? (Mar. 5 2011 14:49:28)

thanks guys, Im gonna check out the suggestions here. more welcome!

deniz! Azulejo is a rumba....soloviejo is the solea so i guess u mean that one. i love JC's stuff so ill have a go at transcribing some of that solea.

Why not create your own solea' tremolo section?

My favorite tremolo is that from Mi Camino by Paco Serrano. You can find it here:

http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=142242&appid=&p=&mpage=1&key=paco%2Cserrano&tmode=&smode=&s=#142275

I also made you a video of one of my tremolos por solea:

I played it at a slow tempo so you could pick it up easily.

Cheers!

PS: This is the kind of tremolo technique I was referring to in the Chicuelo granaina thread, where the quintuplet is equally spaced out. Sabicas, Paco Pena, Paco Cepero, and El Nino Miguel all use this technique. This technique, I find though, is MUCH harder to play at faster tempos while maintaining the equally spaced out quintuplet.

Whoops! Just checked, and he uses i-a-m-i indeed. I fixed my post. I don't know why I was under that weird impression... [:(] Forgive me Lionel and Tio Sabas! [&o]

Youre right, and it is beautiful!

Schalli -> RE: favourite solea tremolo?!? (Mar. 15 2011 14:17:09)

Wow, I'm REALLY surprised no one mentioned that falseta from Jeronimo Maya. It's my absolut favorite regarding Tremolo!

http://www.myspace.com/jeronimomaya

The Video is named Jeronimo 1999.

Pilluminati -> RE: favourite solea tremolo?!? (Mar. 15 2011 18:46:58)

Yea, Jeronimo has really nice tremolos imo too.
check this vid when he was 7 years or something

Watch from 1:15 if you want to hear the tremolo part (I love it)

For a more modern taste, I like Jose Manuel Leon's Travesia de la Solea. I love the build up and the chord he resolves with. Very nice.

I'll look out for that. The name is similar to one of my self-composed pieces: Travesty de la Solea ...

lelandv -> RE: favourite solea tremolo?!? (Mar. 19 2011 17:07:06)

Two that I really like are both played by Paco Pena (though probably originally from either Ricardo or Montoya)... I'll upload a video over the next couple of days when I get a chance :)

estebanana -> RE: favourite solea tremolo?!? (Mar. 19 2011 19:38:40)

Pedro Bacan's only he should have shortened them by about three compases. Bless his heart. :)
