Pimientito -> Gerardos new CD (Mar. 3 2011 10:17:16)

I got some nice news last week from Gerardo. He is back in the studio in Madrid and working on the new album. Cepillo is apparenly tearing out what little is left of his hair in the long laborious process. I ran into Gerardo in Granada last week and met up with him at lunchtime. He was talking among other things about posting a free track from the new CD on the net. He has released a sample track on his facebook page which you can download for free. Anyone who is on facebook can hear this track by clicking the link. If you are already on Gerardos facebook page then you have probably heard it by now. If anyone cant access it then I can post the wav file Gerardo sent me today in the audio section.

Thanks Pimientito, that's some of the best news I've heard in a while! The clip is painfully beautiful. I assume his recovery is going well?

1. I agree! Wonderfull and very interesting track.

2. Did you hear any arpegios? Well... there sees to be one here and there. but okay..if you are a phenomenal composer as Gerardo.. you probaply don´t need arpegio. Lets wait for the CD. Im very happily waiting for it!! Im so glad to know that he goes on making music!

The other good side is... maybe more of his new music could be playable for a human being. ^^

My comment on his recovery was just based on the knowledge that he's working hard to release another album. I take that to mean that his spirits are good and he's hopefully not in much pain.

Your last comment was hilarious [:D]

The problem Doit is that losing some of the arpeggios has meant he made some adaptations with his thumb, and the thumb work now is even better than it was when he was younger. I have seen a couple of his new thumb falsetas and they are really superhuman!! He has modified his technique a bit but he still a phenomenal composer and performer.

Yeah.. his thumb was always ridiculous fast... I can´t wait to get my hands on his new album!! You are so lucky to know some more stuff already! [:)]

mrMagenta -> RE: Gerardos new CD (Mar. 3 2011 20:38:39)

The guy has musicality spilling out of his ears!
I love the sample. Very tasteful way to do a 'nana'.
Promising!

Adam -> RE: Gerardos new CD (Mar. 4 2011 0:40:28)

Cepillo mentioned this on Facebook the other day, good to hear some independent confirmation Mark! It must really be getting underway by now. Any chance we'll hear it before Sanlúcar so the advanzados can bug him to teach some of the new falsetas? [:D]

Yeah. Um. Not going to happen. [:D][:D][:D]

He has playing around with new stuff over the last couple of years. Last year he played a whole new composition in an advanced class and you could hear bits of new material over the week that made me think he must have an album in the works.

I doubt it'll be out before sanlucar. If hes in the studio now then it will be at least 6 months before its ready to release. If hes going to be in "new material" mode then you wont have to worry about the avanzados getting all the new stuff...Im sure you guys will have to suffer it too[:D][:D]

I remember he played this bulería a couple of times over the week (at the Peña, I think, and at Enclave del Sol):

So I'd guess that's going to be one of the tracks on there. I don't remember hearing any other new material then, but to be fair I don't remember a lot of that week [:D]. There was that time he went off and improvised a jazz fusion composition in the middle of the intermediate class, but unless we get him the recording I doubt that's going on the album [;)]

Why not... we also got that nana.. And I also got 3 tracks from andando el tiempo in a premature state long time before the release..

Adam -> RE: Gerardos new CD (Mar. 5 2011 20:13:48)

And I reveal my ignorance of things Gerardo. It turns out that many of the falsetas in that video are from the bulería on the Spanish version of Flamencos en Nueva York. Apparently it's not on the American version which is what I'd listened to until tonight. Interesting. I'll have to get my act together before Sanlúcar!

Adam -> RE: Gerardos new CD (Mar. 9 2011 10:21:05)

He's posted another new track, a clip of a new soleá por bulería. It's quite something! If you're not FB friends with him already, get there and check it out :) This video may still work if you're not friends with him though:

That falseta has been around for a few years though. Gerardo has been playing bits and pieces of that sol x bul for a few years now. He showed us some of it 5 years ago. It seems to have evolved into a piece at last. It seems he has ideas rolling around for a few years before they edventually form finished compositions.

Ruphus -> RE: Gerardos new CD (Mar. 9 2011 15:51:00)

I like what is to be heard in the first clip.
Though bound to traditonal pattern, it seems quite a free-styled creation, almost on the vibe of steel string players like of ol´Kottke & co.

To be a bit provoking:
Could it be that one would be torn into pieces for being so loose, if it wasn´t from a popular artist like Gerardo Nunez?

Could you upload that track somewhere? Facebook says it has been removed. [:(]

Pimientito -> RE: Gerardos new CD (Mar. 9 2011 18:49:27)

I got sent the clip so you can hear it on the audio section now.
Its really beautiful....Gerardos joking that if he sends out any more free clips that he won't sell any discs!

Ruphus - any looseness that could be critcised in the last clip will be completely overlooked by the tightness in this one. Its one of his more phenomenal falsetas.

ashod -> RE: Gerardos new CD (Mar. 10 2011 8:12:42)

I don't know if it's been said or if anybody else noticed this, but in the new videos with his injurie, he has new facial expressions he never had before.

I don't personnaly know the maestro and this describes only my feelings from his videos:

He always looked a bit like terminator before, complete confidence in his perfect technic and thus some distance with what he was playing.
He seems much more human now, we can see suffering, joy and many other things on his face while playing.
I hope he recovers and keeps this new approach to his music.
The new album sounds terrific, can't wait for Nana!

Ruphus -> RE: Gerardos new CD (Mar. 10 2011 11:06:11)

Just listened to the second clip; thank you, Pimientito!

Ashod,

I havn´t seen the video you mention, but it must be like a spell when a musician injures his hand, more even on such a tragically needles occasion like getting cought in a damn cars door.

Could be he has been quite depressed by an returning thought like "Had I only watched out for a second" or so.
It must be such a drag.

Ruphus
