It is definitely not unknown that I am less musically talented than everyone here, but I still appreciate good guitar with all the panache of a bottle of supermarket plonk[:D]

Just find it a little unusual that in all the time I've been reading of guitarists here, I've never heard anyone mention two that I admire. One is Manuel Molina (of Lole and Manuel connection) and the other, Felix de Utrera. Am I on another appreciation planet, or maybe just older than everyone else? Any comments on these guys that I personally rate?

Absolutely! I have mentioned Manuel before; "Mariposa Blanca" (from Saura's Flamenco) is one of my favourites of all time. Nice style, compostion and a great blanca peg-head sound.

I have even named my house after that song. Saw Lole in Jerez last year at the Gonzalez Byass bodega - pure class!

Hope you tried a glass of their pale cream whilst listening to her Simon[:D] One of my favourite flamenco groups is "Gonzales Byass, Domec and Osbourne" [:D]

ps. Fernanda de Utrera said of Felix, "His guitar makes me cry" she could be considered
as an opinion worth considering.

Both are great. Molina had some very cool ideas for double tracking where the two guitar's compliment each other nicely in stereo, very sophisticated. I have the disc of the Montoya family that has young Lole singing w/ her relatives. Not sure if Molina is on that one but it is really good too. My friend Jesus Montoya (cante master residing in US) gave it to me, saying that was his family, and so I could see where his style was coming from.

I have a student who owns a guitar (Conde 1971) that was hand picked by Felix. My student's father made friends w/ Felix while working in Spain, installing those giant Radio dishes in the early 70's. Great guitar. You can see Felix playing and trying out guitars in Rito y Geografia del Toque, in the Conde shop.

Hi Ricardo.

You can also see Felix playing for Fernanda on the video "Story of flamenco; An Andalusian Journey" still one of the best flamenco programmes ever made IMO. Manuel
Molina is also featured on this along with Moraito. Manuel can turn his hand to a decent cante when the mood takes him and I love his Arabic influenced stuff.

Is that the unusual bulerias, about the butterfly or something..?
