Anders Eliasson -> old versions of windows moviemaker on windows 7??? (Feb. 8 2011 21:17:09)

I bought a new laptop with windows 7. I just dont like new operation systems. What was wrong with XP

I´m used to movie maker 2.1. Simple to use and make small videos fast from your digitape camcorder. I WANT THAT PROGRAM TO WORK WITH WINDOWS 7. But how????????

I downloaded the new windows live with moviemaker and I hated it. I downloaded movie maker 2.6 for vista. It doesnt recognize my camcorder. Moviemaker 2.1 I can only find as a part of XP service pack 2 or 3.....

Sometimes I hate microsoft and all their complicating my life......[:o]

Also, any alternatives out there. It needs to be simple but effective and easy to learn. I dont have the energy or time for some stupid video suite. (basically I just want windows moviemaker 2.1)

Why not installing XP then?

there was the suggestion in another thread, that you could install both systems parallel (XP and WIN7) . maybe thats also good for you

So, moviemaker and Windows 7 is out. There´s only this stupid version in the live update that has very few features. The 2,6 works with Win7 but doesnt include a capture feature. The older versions which are the good ones dont work with Win7.
Thank you microsoft for making and inferior product.

I dont have time and I´m not in the mood for a new install of an illegal version of WinXP. In general, operating systems dont interest me. They have to work ant thats it. The rest is total boredom and waste of time IMHO.

SO. any suggestions for a simple program that does the same as the good old moviemaker 2.1 and which doesnt have some stupid and steep learning curve. I havent got the time for this and I need my camcorder to work

XP was a great OS, it worked flawlessly for me for many years.

The one big factor i think is Ram access. XP is limited. You can only have
3 or 4 gigs of ram on an XP box.
Win 7 can use 24 gigs.

But yeah, i hear ya, it complicates my life too. It would be nice if they could pick an OS, and go with it.......forever..... ahahha

I think it has more to do with money. They have to invent something new in order to earn what they earned before. Somehow XP was to good for microsoft.
But why skip one of the good programs that was in XP and leave you with this extremely mediocre live program. That I dont understand.
If I had knewn what I know now, I would have formattet the harddrive when I got the new laptop and installed an illegal version of XP right away. But not now. It takes forever to install all other programs, move files, favorites etc....

I tried to find an english version but had no luck. I know you have some german so in case you wanna try out here is WMM 2.1
http://www.pcfreunde.de/download/d1223/windows-movie-maker/

and you can still install XP OVER Win7. You dont need to format/delete anything. I have Xp and 7 on different disks. Each time i boot i get asked which system to choose. No problem. Installing XP takes about 40 minutes.

Hi Deniz

Thnaks for the movie maker... You still cant install it in a Win7 environment. I only have one disk, so installing XP is a bit so - so.
