I have been listening to Paco De Lucia’s ‘Cositas Buenas’. I don’t get it. If anyone out there thinks this it great flamenco please tell me why. I have also been listening to ‘Orate’ by Diego Del Morao. the thumbs up on this. Anyone disagree?

I think it's great flamenco , because simply it's perfect .

have u listened to the buleria Volar it's a deep kick ass amazing great buleria
if u don't like what about Que Venga el Alba (Bulería) can't u feel Camaron's magical sound .. wat about the tango Cositas Buenas .. it's a mix of eastern and western for me .. its one of my fav tangos

it's a great flamenco in my opinion .. so deep .. and paco's touch couldn't be described .

can you please tell me , what do u hate about it ?

orate is a nice album as well

Music, or any other thing that is based on feelings, doesnt work that way. If you get it, you get it. If not, you dont. No explanation will be sufficent enough to change your taste on this.

cositas buenas is not everyones favorite. Also not mine. But it is a masterpiece. Theres much inside which is again revolutionary and highly elaborated. We just don´t understand the genius of everything coz its beyond our horizon of understanding it.

Thats no joke. I wont criticize it, coz its light years ahead of my understanding of the details. -.-

OR....... its really that simple... with annoying singers, baby voices, elevator music and I just don´t get it.. ...... Lets see what he does in the next album. So,..in the end we can turn it as we like,..I don´t get it. Oo

I also like orate very much. But I can also very well understand some members who are not very impressed.

Shroomy summed up pretty well.

Cositas is one of the most significant albums in Flamenco (pretty much all of Paco's albums are) and it's because of, eh, lots of things. Ricardo and others who are much more versed with history and musical theory can explain a lot better.

If you can't understand it it's okay. You probably are either new to Flamenco and/or not a fan of modern stuff.

Comparing Orate to Cositas is like, comparing baby Jesus to Jesus before death.
(can anyone come up with a better metaphor?)

i personally agree with everyones explanation here, but agree with deniz the most.

you can't tell someone some theory and say: look, this is the history of the piece and how it evolved.......now please like it!

Cositas Buenas is heavy stuff. Even for Afficionados who are in to flamenco for several years.

At the time Cositas came out, I personally liked almost all modern albums with very few exceptions,,,,, but when i heard Cositas the first time , i was like ->

"[8|] + [&:] + hmm + ? + Ole is some parts + [:-] + .........",

basically very confused,,,but later after heard it several times and gave it some time.....its now one of my favourites from Paco.....

I also didn't like Cositas at first... I quickly changed my mind though. It's a great album. There's so many things happening in there, the playing is amazing and the compos display a profound knowledge of flamenco in general and cante in particular.

I listed to cositas 3 years ago and I put it aside. Now I obsess about it because things makes sense now. I get it.

Orate, I like but I also think its a bit one dimensioned? But lets see how things go in 3 years :)
