p00nani -> hello hope you can solve an argument that i had with a friend (Jan. 25 2011 7:52:27)

i had an argument with a friend about tresilius and what it is,
i play tresilius in a couple of ways one is p,ma,p and the other is a,i,i and the other is
p,e,i now i know that it is a resguados and tresilius is just a type of notation
or just mean that there is three note's per beat .

he say's that tresilius is a type of technic that is p,e,i and the others are not tresilius but just resguado's.
now i know it is a childish argument but he really tried to convince me that
tresilius is the technic of p,e,i while i tried to explain him that tresilius means
three notes per beat and there are couple of ways to play it .

thank for all the replies
best regards.

I guess all techniques you mentioned are triplets rasgueados
your friend is probably wrong

abanico is a triplet rasgueado and it's could be done by p,ma,p

Terminology can be frustrating to argue over as there can be different meanings in context. TRESILLOS are triplet rasgueados as the term is used for flamenco guitar playing technique, versus the basic musical meaning of "triplets". Likewise "arpegio" is a right hand technique of guitar players, where as for other musicians an arpegio is simply a broken chord.

from what i understand, tresillos are triplets. doesn't matter whether it's a,i,i, or i,m,i or p,a,p.

abanico means fan. so it's any of the rasgueados that looks like you're waving a fan. and it could be sixteenths like, p,a,m,i or p,a,p but grouped in fours. or triplets or any other rhythm.
