prd1 -> cava baja...Madrid (Jan. 23 2011 22:14:09)

About 5 years ago I strayed down Cava Baja and heard the sound of Flamenco music coming from one of the bars, a kind of flamenco open mike night (without the mike?) - I was addicted and eventually asked the guy playing the guitar for some lessons as an introduction to flamenco music. I think the bar was called Alambique...

I had the chance to take a few lessons from a real nice chap called Alphonso - absolute gentleman but I didn't speak any Spanish, lessons were fun but the language barrier was frustrating...

...any case - one evening a young english chap showed up during my session sporting a beaten up guitar who translated for me - i think his girlfriend was at dancing school in Madrid? Many questions were answered especially regarding 12 beat compas that Alphonso had been trying to explain that I just couldn't understand. As Flamenco is rather limited here in UK I wonder if this chap is a member here? I hope so - you were a bridge to a whole new world...drop me a line if this was you?!?!?
