No, definitely not quitting.
I am forced to keep the last guitar that I made because the finish is not up to my standards (experimenting with orange color). But I love the sound

can we see pictures of the new orange one?
i think non-standard looking guitars are cool.

lol. everybody's been asking about that now. It's the one I've been playing in my last few videos.

I like the color but it's uneven, especially on the back. It doesn't really show up in the videos. I'll email you pictures if you want em. I'd be willing to sell it but I might take the label out

it looks and sounds great in the video. can't you refinish it?

Hi Andy,

I believe cosmetics are very important and orange is my favorite finish color.

hey andy.. i think cosmetic plays a distant criteria in a choice for a guitar.. as long as it's not ugly.. i'm sure it's not that bad.. sounds and looks good to me... like leo said.. can't you redo the finish?

It's possible.. but the top is very thin already.. I might though.

Personally I don't care that much which is why I was going to keep it to play.

I made a similar goof on my very first guitar I went str8 to the red shellac, it wasn't a problem with the monteray cypress but on the spruce top it was uneven looking. I think it just gave it an aged beat up kinda of look which kinda grew on me.
I'm sure someone will be more then pleased owning and playing the hell out of your guitars, a great deal like that because of minor cosmetic flaws is a damn fine trade off.
Nice work

Andy
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡DONT SELL IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You´ll always regret it. I´m serious here. I was in a similar position when I started, but fortunately daddy bought my number 1. And do you know why? So that I couldnt sell it to someone else. Thanks daddy. I enjoy the guitar every time I visit him and one day it´ll be mine again.
Sell the orange one cheap and go on with life. We all have trobles with guitars sometimes and we all sell some of them cheap. I have an orange 1A which I´ll have to put a white tapplate on because some strange chemical reaction happened below the clear tapplate and when I removed it, the french polish came of where the cloudy reaction had been. Its a part of a luthiers life. Sometimes things dont turn out the way they should and we´ll earn less money but hopefully we´ll learn something valuable..

But dont sell your number 1. I´m serious.

DT I will put an order in for one of your negra's when I can . On a sentimental note , my first surfboard that I rode was a green country style single fin , I was so close to having it to look at and ponder the past , It got sold , It's still in my heart , but it would still be nice to look at and start small talk with friends .

Andy Culpepper -> RE: Selling my first guitar (Jan. 21 2011 12:25:57)

Anders, your words mean a lot to me. I had actually come to the same conclusion last night. I know it would have been hard to let this one go for so little compared to its value to me.
So if anybody wants a jacked up orange guitar let me know and I will sell it real cheap.

Sean -> RE: Selling my first guitar (Jan. 21 2011 16:30:50)

I'm glad Anders put that post in, for the record I kept my first guitar flaws and all, besides my mom pretty much forbid me from ever selling it to anyone other then her, she doesn't even play lol, she just knows I would one day regret it if it was lost to the sands of time.
