My friend in new york Pedro Cortez was interviewed in this documentary and at 2:30 he shows a sabicas technique. I think it is with thumb only you go down up, then a bass note, hammer, up stroke, bass note, pull/hammer, up stroke, etc in triplets.

its this kinda doing upstroke alazapua only, did'nt gerardo do some of this stuff in the dvd?

Great interview, thanks! Ramzi, the word "tio" is kind of used as an affectionate term in Spanish, not literally meaning uncle. Hence Paco's "Tio Sabas"

Jeez...it seems how Sabicas was addressed by his close friends is even more important than his playing. [:D] Can anybody else really clarify the complete etimology of "tio", perhaps even tracing the roots back to the first time the maestro was ever referred to as "tio" Sabicas? That indeed would be wonderful. If you can, please supply the date, time and location as to when this event took place so we can write it into the history books and remember it for a knowlegeable interjection at dinner parties. It appears to be a Spanish channel. He speaks English just fine.

Hey Tio Ron ,,, deteresa is right it can mean just a guy or a special guy as much as "vi una Tia ' can mean I saw a girl (any girl ) or Tio a guy, or sometimes say "Oye Tio " to get your attention , yeah it's good though....

Well the reason why I asked was: Here at my place are some in germany born people with spanish parents. Or spanish people who came over here with 3-10 years of age. These people love to talk spanish in classes (when they are teacher) ... Even to me they talk spanish in front of classes just because they think its cooler or makes em more authentic flamenco teachers.. Even if they speak native german and just a few people can understand em in class.. Its often weird..and I don´t like this. We are in germany and everybody understands german. So there is no need to talk spanish in class. Well,.. but your explanation makes sense Ricardo. So he´s lucky and did all right. ^^ Tio Doit has spoken.. [&:]

[;)] Tio Sabicas was proably pretty "glic" by some of the rocks's and gold jewelery he had which we see quite prominetly in some of his videos and album covers[:D]
