Neotriz -> Slowdown Programs (Jan. 13 2011 15:03:12)

There are couple of songs that I wish to transcribe, and I was wondering what software program do you guys use to slow down the music?

Munin -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 13 2011 15:04:54)

I use Amazing Slow Downer and I think it's the best one...there is another one, Transcribe! but IMHO ASD has the better sounding algorithm for slowing down guitars. The downside is it has no feature like Transcribe where it actually guesses the notes at any given point.

Gummy -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 13 2011 16:41:15)

I use Transcribe and really like it. It does Video too. Does ASD? I bought it but never use it.

XXX -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 13 2011 16:48:20)

VLC does video too [;)]
I have become addicted to ASD. It saves your files and my playlist there is quite long [:D]

Gummy -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 13 2011 20:23:59)

I think I know what you mean. With transcribe, I can save a loop or portion of video I am working on and open it later to exactly the same spot. Pretty cool. I will break out ASD again and compare soon. I am at work for a few days though.

yohan -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 13 2011 20:53:23)

Lol I didn't know that, so that's how all you musical wonders transcribe [:-]

ToddK -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 13 2011 21:15:41)

I used Amazing Slowdowner the other day to figure out Ron M's mystery alzapua run.[:D]

It is indeed "amazing". I love it.

rombsix -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 13 2011 21:23:53)

You can slow down audio or video via VLC or Windows Media Player (while maintaining pitch, obviously). What does Amazing Slow Downer offer which the above two programs do NOT?

Is ASD free, or do y'all buy it?

A good slow down algorithm.

edit: what would be proper english? Im undecided...

a) a good slow down algorithm?
b) a good slowing down algorithm?

I would go with option B. [:)]

So, do you all BUY this Amazing Slow Downer, or just use the trial, or what? Is it worth it?

ToddK -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 13 2011 22:33:19)

Amazing Slowdowner sounds much better than VLC or Windows media player.

You can loop and render any section to mp3 or wave file.

You can also tune the material to whatever you want.

Say im learning something that was played capo 1, but i want to learn
it at capo 3 . No problem, tune it up a whole step.

Amazing Slowdowner is 30.00$ USD. Well worth it. Im glad i bought it.

There is a free trial.

marduk -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 13 2011 23:06:18)

I prefer transcribe over the amazing slow downer. but they essentially both do the task

it has some good features, you can change the tuning (i often do this if i want to practice with the capo in a different spot) you can save the section of loop you want to use and it opens in the same spot later

I have used both and I said it before and say it again Transcribe is way better, and free updates for life. Its much easier to use and you can even download clips from youtube and just drag it into Transcribe and now you have both audio and dvd to slow down to your hearts desires. Transcribe is the way to go.

How do you know if Amazing Slow Downer is the best if one if you have just heard about Transcribe and have never actually used it? IMHO in my IMHO is worthless without having a foundation.

Neotriz go with Transcribe, it is much better than ASD.

Check out the above link for some of its features

Download both programs and try them yourself. Transcribe is limited to 30 day trial but ASD is only limited to the first three minutes of any track.

ASD is a great no nonsense tool. Transcribe looks really good, I think I'll download a trail and see how I get on with it.

XXX -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 14 2011 11:44:00)

I have recorded the same track at the same speed with both software and the result is obvious. Compare the section from 8s to 9s.

While i was at it i did the same with the MediaPlayer

Another test, this time with 25% instead of 50% (makes the gap bigger coz Amazing slow downer is so much better).

ohhh just in case i have forgotten to say it, you can use VLC player for videos, or, record the audio from the video and put the audio into ASD.

Huh, where did I say that I never used Transcribe!?

I agree that Transcribe has more features but ASD sounds better and clearer for slowing down guitars. What's more important is of course up to individual opinion.

Their website says it's for 49.95$ USD.

Actually, it's limited to the first quarter of whatever track you load into it, and, if that quarter of the track turns out to be longer than 3 minutes, then only the first 3 minutes will work. If you load a 3-minute song, only the first 45 seconds will work.

ToddK -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 14 2011 22:18:39)

Price of ASD went up. It was 30 bucks four years ago.

The limitation is only in the trial version. Once you buy, no limits.

Like the price, other things have changed as well.[:)]

Stu -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 16 2011 0:17:25)

transcribe for me! i havent used ASD but its prob pretty similar i guess.
win MP and quicktime may slow down but not like transcribe. plus you get the invaluable soundwave which you can mark up into beats and scrutinize every bit...i love it

Neotriz -> RE: Slowdown Programs (Jan. 16 2011 3:19:14)

Thanks for the all the response!

It looks like I went with ASD. I found the app for it on my iTouch for 15 dollars and it was definitely worth it!

Although the Transcribe was nice, I felt ASD was more user-friendly; it's more straight forward

cheers! [:)]

Audacity, like any other "general" Audio Software, is not specialized in slowing down. It has about the same quality as transcribe, or even worse.
