First questions and first impressions on my new guitar.
I finally receive my new and first flamenco guitar[:)].
I am self taught and in the past I played mostly classical guitar.
The guitar has a very good sound; it is not at all difficult to play, easier than the classical (lower action, etc.).
Flamenco repertoire has a distinct challenge on the right hand and on the rhythm patterns; one changes a lot on the same song ; pulgar, picado, arpeggios, etc. but definitely what makes it a real pleasure is the power, passion and soul that is hidden behind it isn’t it? This is perhaps very subjective and it is felt more from the player side(point of view)?.
About the pulgar, I was listen to a sample of a very expensive flamenco guitar ( a blanca) where the guitar player plays a lot of E open string notes (that sound had a very distinctive sharp and almost metallic sound that lasts not for very long)and I was thinking that my guitar, also a blanca does not sound at all like that; sounds more like a negra, and then, naturally, I played using almost only the fleshy part of the thumb with little or not at all using the nail and the sound was almost quite the same.
Do you have this same experience?
What I like most is the quick response and sharpness of sound; I even like to play classical pieces on it. IMO it makes a greater difference to try to play flamenco on a classical than the opposite. Do you agree?
thank you for lstening
Antonio

I agree with almost everything you said!

Except the passion in music should be felt by player and listener--that's the whole point of music!

I find that I use more thumb flesh to get a good sound, too. I can't seem to get a good flamenco thumb sound with my nail.

And I agree that classical sounds good on my negra :)

Hi Miguel,
I agree with you;I forgot to mention that I do not play for an audience but most of the time alone in my room.

Everything sounds good on "your" negra!

Patrick,
you might as well get used to the fact that is my negra. Well, almost.

I do miss her. Can I come and see her sometime?

Sure, but let us paint this damn house and sell it first :)
