A Glimpse Into The Workshop of Sebastian Stenzel

Hello,

I'd like to share with everybody a little film I made yesterday during a visit in the workshop of my friend and very admired luthier, Sebstian Stenzel.
He asked me to shoot some pictures, and as it happened, my camera was also able to shoot a short movie, which I did.

I was able to film a very traditional procedure of binding the purflings with a rope. While for me it's hard to imagine how the making of the purflings works at all, I could see Sebstian do it with the same ease as I do peel carrots.

Anyway, you might enjoy it. The background music is played (2009, from "Only A Page In My Guitar Diary") by me on a Sebstian Stenzel Flamenca Blanca built in 1998 in Munich.

See here for the movie and also for some of my other usical activities:

best wishes Rojarosguitar

I understand that tradition plays some part in the building process but this is one technique that has been overcome with newer and better ways to glue the binding/purfling.

I use tape to hold the gluing process and I pre-fit the binding/purfling dry before I glue it into the guitar. This way there is no potential problem with messing up a joint and having to redo the entire process.
