I think Paco is definitely enjoying himself there. IMO...Paco is quite an ordinary lad with an extraordinary talent for Flamenco guitar that has taken him on to an extraordinary life in the public eye.. In fact, before I actually knew who the young PdL was back in the 60's and had only an LP of "Dos Guitarras in Hispanoamerica" to go on...I asked Paco Peña..."Who is this guy..Paco de Lucia....does he just play Spanish and Latin folk tunes or what? He's got quite a stunning technique." Peña looked at me and said... "Yeah he plays that stuff as well...but let me tell you..when Paco de Lucia chooses to play Flamenco..he is absolutely FANTASTIC (waving his hands in front of him as he said it...) I had to wait a few months later before I eventually got "Fantasia Flamenca" finally sent to me from Spain. Paco has ALWAYS been really great at the "pop" stuff IMO. He's a great session man. Look at all his memorable "hits"... Panaderos, Impetu, Celosa, Guajiras de Lucia...etc all the way up to Ente dos Aguas.. They have always been musically pretty simple but played with a breathtaking technique and always been the favorites around the world amongst guitarists, even amongst folk here. The Cositas Buenas kinda stuff IMO is him out of his depth in composition etc and just basically noodling at a high technical level and fudging and blurring his way through a million notes and key changes and hoping that will sound complicated and cool. Jeez.. I bet he doesn't even enjoy it like he is obviously doing in the above video. It's not his comfort zone....Gerardo and others, yes...but Paco no. Different personalites IMO. Paco is just a big country boy with an amazing gift IMO....not one the most amazing musical composers of our time. I think he is a lot more comfortable and happier with playing straight stuff, but will certainly noodle all the way up and down the fretboard with the best of them if challenged... cheers, Ron
