Anyone have a copy of his CD I can buy?! Some websites say it's out of print, others would cost me around $50 including shipping from Europe [:(]

That's the one, Elie - as far as I know, it's his only solo record.

I'm surprised to hear that, Doit - I'd still like to hear it for myself. I wonder if he's planning to release any other records...

Don't listen to them, it's a seriously good record.

Alright, it was one of those albums where I listened a few times, put it away, picked it up some number of months/a year later and realized how good it was (same happened with Chicuelo's "Diapasion"). But yeah, there's a lot of really solid music on there, and the dude can play.

As for Rey Chango, yeah, it's a cool track, and it's not flamenco, but who cares? [:D]

Doitsujin -> RE: Jerónimo Maya CD? (Dec. 15 2010 14:58:05)

Its of course a good CD. Just not my taste.

Yeah. I had that with several CDs, too. Maybe I should give it another try.

I agree with Ramparts. I was just listening to this yesterday. If you don't find it. Let me know.

Thanks guys, I found a copy thanks to Elie. Haven't listened to much of it yet - only had time to skip through a few tracks. I'll give it a good listen this weekend.

Ramirez -> RE: Jerónimo Maya CD? (Dec. 17 2010 14:02:22)

The seguiriya is really quite special.

Alright, so I ended up listening to this again in the car tonight and have got to reaffirm what I said before: this is a really strong album, start to finish. As Ramirez said, the seguiriya is really special, and I'd say the same about the zapateao. Rey Chango isn't flamenco, but who cares? It's a damn cool song. The bulería to open just rocks. The granaína is lovely and the track at the end is beautiful (whether or not it's flamenco). The rest of the tracks - like the soleá and the tangos - are for the most part pretty strong too.. So Doit, I get that it's not to your taste and that's obviously fine but I stand by what I said before - there's a ton of good music on this disc!
