Paul Magnussen -> Does anyone remember Ian Davies? (Dec. 6 2010 17:01:04)

The late Ian Davies was an English flamenco guitarist who learnt from Pepe Martínez and Paco Peña, and made such progress that he was invited by Serranito to join his group. He spent the next ten years playing all over Spain.

When he returned to England in the '80s, he published several excellent books of student material with accompanying cassettes. Unfortunately, they disappeared with his untimely death in 2003.

Ian was a good friend of mine, and I've been contacted by several people asking if there's any chance of his books being republished. So if there's enough interest, I will contact Ian's girlfriend, who was his heir, and see what can be arranged.

Any takers?

Ian wrote a series of short articles on flamenco palos which appeared in Guitar International magazine [now defunct] from 1985 to 1986.

I'd be very interested in Volumes 5 and up (if they ever actually were published) and in CDs (or other media) of any of his books

That’s a good album, especially the rondeña. Doesn’t sound like anyone else.

people laugh at me for still having these, most people I know have thrown them away (if they are old enough to have had them).... I have never heard them called "MC" though, always known them as "tapes"[:D]

have you put the album onto mp3 yet?

bernd -> RE: Does anyone remember Ian Davies? (Apr. 13 2014 8:04:12)

I wish I did but I don´t have a player. The time I listened the tape I didn´t have the technique to put in in mp3.

Btw my newphew, 14 years old, asked his father what an LP is [:)]. He never saw an LP and only know CDs.

Hi Paul
I have been trying to find these for years. I was lucky enough to have a couple of lessons with Ian many years ago in London - I was so inept, however he inspired me to take it up more seriously.

I still have books 1 (Solea and Sevillianas) and book 2 (Buleria and Granadinas) with the cassettes. it would be great to get hold of the full set, the ones I have are excellent with lovely pieces.

good Luck
