Skai -> 3-Piece Back? (Feb. 16 2005 8:33:19)

I've seen some guitars with a 3 piece back and they seem to cost more than a guitar with the same specifications by the same maker. Any reason for this? A better sound maybe? Or perhaps just due to difficulties in making and aesthetic reasons?

Comments anyone?

JBASHORUN -> RE: 3-Piece Back? (Mar. 9 2005 10:10:47)

I've just noticed one of my guitars appears to have a 3 piece back. I suspect that it is done for financial reasons, as this particular guitar is an ultra-basic, cheap guitar. I also happened to have another guitar by the same maker, but with a 2-piece back, and it was more expensive. If anything, I'd say the 2-piece sounds better, but then it is made of slightly different woods. Interestingly enough, the guitar with the 3-piece back also seems to have a 3-piece FRONT as well, which I though was quite unusual, and perhaps not a good thing. They might have used 3 smaller pieces as opposed to 2 larger ones because it is cheaper to buy smaller sheets of wood rather than larger ones, but I may be wrong...
