Hello everybody!
After playing soléa for over a year now I decided to choose Bulerías as my next (second) Palo. After reading around a lot and hearing how difficult/complex etc. this palo is, I'm asking myself how to start best? Do you have any hints for a beginner, maybe based on your own experiences?

-I guess it would be best to start only playing compas and leaving out falsetas or letras etc? What would you suggest, how many variations of the compas should i learn with the aim of accompanying danceclasses?? Musst be many more than i need in soléa, because of the speed i guess...?
-Do you agree with only playing compass first or do you think it better to include some easy falsetas right from the beginning?
-Do you know where i can get audio/tabs for bulerias compas? I own the Graf Martinez Book, but the examples there sound all VERY similar... I also checked out the Beginners Bulerías Challenge, but the tabs in that thread are no longer available...
- I recognised that Bulerías is not always counted 12-11 with same accents as soléa, but also 123,123 or 12,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11
Would you sguggest learning only the 12-11 thing at the beginning?

I think the easiest way to start bulerias is this:

il make you a quick vid with 2 really basic rithm compases that i start all my students with when starting bulerias...i think getting down this 2 compases will get you well on your way and because of it...it will train you for other stuff

the 2 basic compas rithm combination that i like..at medium speed...il do some really slow versions now

just incase you dont pick it up from the video in the first compas...i do the 1 2 compas with A I downwards....can also do it with M I ....and i do the same for the 10

i think if you get this down you are off to a great start

i made a video 1 year ago. It's about how i learned the medio compas por buleria.
2x6 beat.




Also from 1 year ago a simple buleria with basic falsetas.

afcourse amigo...when accompanying anything ...variety is the spice of life...u dont wanna sound like a metronome...for your own sanity...i doubt they would even notice in class


that's why its good to have practiced about 6 rithm variations ( even more if you want) to mix and match

ive got a video in the audio section in a thread called beginner bulerias i made, that shows these variations, and a couple of other ones that florian showed me, with some falsettas

the fasettas were not great to reference, but i think i did the compas pretty well, it might help you learn a couple of variations of the videos florian posted here

Hey Schalli,

I found this one last weekend which is nice as he uses the thumb to accentuate the changes. Don't worry if you can't understand Spanish as he slow's it right down so you will see and hear everything at slow speed.

Thanks for the uploaded vids! They were nice. I had seen an earlier version of Flos when he uploaded for Kozz or Marduk but this one is more clear. Mezzo, I really liked that second video and how it had so many common bits. I recognised some of Ron's challenge piece iin it.
