Hey Estebanana,

Give up the guitar making nonsense and become a Pizza delivery man and insult the customers at the door. [:D]

cheers,

Ron

Yes I like that.

Steve, give up trying to sell guitars to lists like this and just enjoy the talk. Let it be your source of interest for information sake rather than sales talk. The guitar I sent to Savage Guitars will probably be sold to a person who doesn't frequent lists. This happens the majority of time.

GSI made my reputation for about the 15 years I did business with them. Now, I enjoy the time spent in my shop, knowing that my guitars sell well when I finish them, God willing.

How do you get a guitarmaker off your porch?

Probably Stephen Faulk judging by a certain CarTalk appearance.
Seriously though what is so boring about guitarmaking? Maybe I am just new to it but to me it seems endlessly fascinating and rewarding.

Anders Eliasson -> RE: I'm bored (Nov. 29 2010 8:31:09)

This thread is REALLY boring.[8D]

Hey Estebanana,

I'm not even interested in guitar making, yet I like your posts about all the pain that goes into making guitars. It makes it more real somehow.
Makes me appreciate guitar builders more.

I would never have the patience to work to fractions of a millimetre with wood.
I would last only a day before I smashed the whole workshop up and punched and swore at everybody in sight. [:D][:D]

cheers,

Ron

If you want to teach me something I'm listening, but so far all I feel is on this list is that the guitarists share stuff, but the guitar makers are competitive, secretive and protective of the very little stuff they actually know.

Know any good pizza delivery guy jokes?

I share but you haven't asked. And a guitar maker was delivering a pizza to a little old lady and she came to the door and asked, son, did they make it gluten free. He said, no mam, they don't make gluten free pizza, Oh, she said, So, go back and tell them that I don't eat non-gluten-free-pizza.

XXX -> RE: I'm bored (Nov. 29 2010 15:14:57)

Im thrilled of my guitar. 1000$ very well spent [:D][:D][:D]

cathulu -> RE: I'm bored (Nov. 30 2010 0:04:04)

Oh come on Ron! That is so bogus. You fiddle around with electrical / electronic stuff - as I do sometimes - and I know that is something that will make anybody go batty!

Working with wood is very relaxing when you take your time and measure at least twice before you cut. I have framed a few house additions and I loved it. Now drywalling, that sucks.

And I am also thrilled with my guitar, and the Luthier was happy to see my cash. Everybody was happy! [:D]

Tom,

I think you and I should knife fight like that episode of the original Star Trek where Kirk and Spock get tied together at the wrists and have to kill each other over a woman.

Hey Stephen, I will be your first subscriber/follower or whatever. I love your writing and your approach to guitarmaking.

Anders Eliasson -> RE: I'm bored (Dec. 1 2010 8:43:21)

aaaaaaahhh, is this going to be about guitars and building them? Then I might not fall asleep[sm=rolleyes.gif]

(I´m just following a rule: Punks get punked)

Randy Reynolds -> RE: I'm bored (Dec. 2 2010 1:37:37)

You're a good man Stephen. Go build guitars and your work and your blogs will be very successful. You have found out that those who spend too much time on forums wind up posting disturbing pictures.

A few years ago one of our esteemed forum luthiers - Steven Eden (hope you don't mind the quote being atributed to you steve!!!!!) - told me that a luthiers present state of mind will be reflected in his output...

...if this is true - and you're so bored - your guitars voicing will follow your state of mind. Which palo would you suggest is best represeneted by your work?

I'm still searching for a sound like my first teacher's guitar. Sitting in front of him playing that guitar was awe-inspiring and definitely shaped my idea of what a Flamenco guitar is. It was a Pedro de Miguel...

I don't sound like Marote',

Perhaps you don't sound like him as he played slightly convex finger-boards. He and Paco Del Gastor cut an album in '65. Paco was playing a Conde with a very low action and lively sound. I played that guitar and found it to be like the sound Juan Maya preferred.

Guitar making is a passion regardless of what you think about your own preferences. And it comes from a people who think with their hearts. Many explanations can be given for flamenco and what the guitar is but I have found that either a person has it in their inner man or they don't.

It's either in you or it's not. There are really no words for it.
