Carlos -> Madrid Luthiers-Where To Visit Today (Nov. 17 2010 6:48:11)

I have been lurking for awhile and appreciate all the thoughtful advice on buying a new flamenco guitar. In the end I decided I needed to play the guitar before I bought it. Without much planning, I decided to go to Madrid on a luthier crawl and see if something inspired me. I arrived yesterday and a friend who is a musician here took me to see Ramirez and Conde. While looking for the ultimate jamon, I stumbled upon Jose Romero. He had a nice professional blanca for 4600 euro. I played the offerings from Conde and Ramirez from 2000 to 7000 euro. The two guitars that I think have stood out so far have been the Conde negra (25?26?) for 7000 (dont want to spend that much) and the Romero Blanca for 4600. I plan on going to Pedro de Miguel today and one other luthie my friend is recommending. Any suggestions on where to go in the next few days would be appreciated.

Go to Contrerras and try his flamencos. His tone is one of the best, IMHO.

Pedro Maldonado makes very beautiful instruments, you should check him out.

There are two Maldonado shops, one in Malaga, the other in Torremolinos.... so don't get frustrated looking for him in Madrid.
