I have been looking for an inexpensive old solid wood flamenco guitar. Have an opportunity to purchase a vintage (1960 era) Cordoba 1a, spruce top, cypress back and sides. This is not a Rafael de Cordoba. I will have to purchase from afar, which is admittedly a lousy way to attempt this, but I am willing to chance it. Just wondering if anyone has played or has an opinion. Thank you - Andy

Strange..... usually in this era guitars were labeled by the maker's name. Not a company name. I am skeptical about it. Lots of kick ass guitars out there that sound old. If you want an old guitar its better to purchase one that is going to be worth the inevitable trouble that comes with owning a vintage instrument..... if you are wanting to play it that is. I may be wrong though..... go with your gut.

Hey, Jason, thanks for the feedback. My gut decided to go for it to satisfy my curiosity. As far as we can tell, it looks like it was imported in the 1950's from Spain. I have no way to authenticate the shop that it came from. I was told by the importer's former associates that it is prob a low-grade Conde, but I don't know if I believe that. The importer (now no longer alive) had slapped a handwritten label calling it a 1a Cordoba, but it is in no way a "1a". Not a bad little guitar, but not what anyone I know would call a 1a or top of the line. It has many of the issues of an old guitar, a number of which were repaired, and fortunately for me, well-repaired, and a number of unaddressed issues which I am able to tackle (humidity, fret sprout, decrepit original tuners, and a finish that makes me gag!). So, I am enjoying playing it, nonetheless, as it is completely different voice and personality than anything else I have.
