The Fundacion Centro Flamenco of the Philippines!

This group is awesome, and i adore them. They are the remaining flamenco enthusiasts, performers and teachers here in the Philippines (and including me, just an aficionado).

The Philippines held its first Guitar Festival namely the "Philippine International Guitar Festival" or "PIGF" on 2009 at the Cultural Center of the Arts in the Philippines. They are going to host another event next year thus being the 2nd International Guitar Festival and 1st International guitar competition. I tell you, the future of the guitar in the Philippines is starting to bud and blossom and hopefully we would be recognized in the map as one of Asia's talented countries.

Check out there youtube account: http://www.youtube.com/user/philguitarfest

Here is a short clip took in one of the workshops during the Guitar Festival last January 2009

Here is a short description of the said group

Keenly aware of the close historical bond between Spain and the Philippines, considering the 400 years of Spanish colonization, the Fundacion Centro Flamenco aspires to celebrate the rich heritage gained from this relationship by creating a Center where teachers and musicians of Spanish music and dance can share and promote the culture. It endeavors to preserve and enhance the Spanish heritage of the Filipinos gained from their relationship with Spain; celebrating these artistic influences in each performance and demonstrating the unity in the mixture of artistic tendencies between the two countries.

The Fundacion Centro Flamenco also encompasses boundaries between cultures and traditions and aims to keep pace with the present trend of Flamenco, allowing innovative styles in the dances and their interpretations without losing touch with tradition and the captivating soul of Flamenco. It opens its doors to foreign professors and established artists of Flamenco to share and give workshops at the Center, encouraging interaction among local and foreign teachers and students.

Above all, it is the groundwork for aspiring professionals and artists in the Philippines, giving them the foundation and the necessary tools towards higher pursuit in the art of Flamenco.

Great performance, but that dancer needs to sit with flamenco posture and do palmas so she can be heard. For a while I thought she was a stray audience member who sat in the wrong place.
