Janne H -> Yellow finish? (Oct. 13 2010 8:34:00)

Hi, just a quick question.

Is yellow finish a standard on a flamenco blanca guitar?

Anders Eliasson -> RE: Yellow finish? (Oct. 13 2010 9:54:04)

No, not specially

I think that natural, yellow and orange is standard blanca colors

ok,

It seems most flamenco blanca guitars I´ve seen or tryied have a yellow finish.

Just to make sure, is beno´s Castillo (in the other thread) yellow?

I do this color as well and I call it orange. Its inbetween orange and yellow IMHO.

The natural colour of blanca's does turn fairly yellow over a few years! Just with a little sunlight. I personally prefer not to colour my instrument as I think it takes from the natural beauty of the wood

Depends on what type of finish I guess.. shellac tends to range from almost clear to yellow to orange. Of course you can put dyes in or what have you but regular shellac with a medium amount of tint will basically look yellow on cypress. Cypress is just a yellowish wood. Lately I've been going to light blonde shellac which is very natural looking and leaves the spruce pretty white.

I love those Canary Yellow guitars!

The ones with the top, back and the sides exactly the same colour.

So yellow and shiny it would knock your eye out!

Absolutely no subtley of wood grain or anything..just solid yellow with a clear tap plate..so you get more yellow!!

It's probably lacquer and does nothing for the sound, but I'm a pleb and I don't care...I just love the look! [:D]

cheers,

Ron

Ron, you're a man after my own heart but you forgot to mention the black ebony pegs. BTW, who says lacquer does nothing for the sound?

Oooooh! (Drool!)

Yep John....that's exactly the guitar I had in mind.

About the lacquer, I've read some makers here say that in their opinion it affects the sound.
But don't Condes have a lacquer finish?

I understand that repairs are more difficult and costly to do, but who cares?

You can't go through life denying yourself things you like just because they might be difficult to repair.

Buy an insurance policy at the same time if you are that kind of worrier. [:D]

cheers,

Ron
