Lascaux -> Teachers Around London UK (Sep. 30 2010 12:06:49)

Just thought I might put the feelers out for recommendations on teachers around London/the south.

I've learnt classical guitar for 15 years and play professionally (and teach) but I want to dedicate myself to flamenco guitar!

My ultimate goal is to accompany singers. I am really only interested in Puro at the moment. I've had a couple of lessons and have learnt sabicas' 'el rey del mundo' and the solea & siguiriya from puro flamenco. I want a teacher who can go through the basics of the palos and compas for dancers/singers but can also teach to an advanced/professional standard.

Also, are there any thoughts on the Paris school, I've heard you can study for a degree in flamenco guitar there... whilst I'm not sure that's the way to go, if I can get funding, it'd be a perfect chance to learn and free my time to serious practice!

Or, in all seriousness, should I just pack it up and move to spain?
Many thanks in advance,

If you don't mind travelling to North London, I recommend Francisco Antonio.
He is very knowledgeable, patient, methodical and not a clock watcher!

Here's his website: www.estiloflamenco.com

Good luck.

I'd highly recommend Ramon Ruiz, west london.

I fumbled around for 18 months, then made great progress with him. He is flamenco puro, a performer and an excellent teacher.

Ramon was my first teacher. He is good.
