VietFlamenco -> Golpe Help (Sep. 29 2010 6:46:28)

I've been advancing fairly well in my flamenco studies. During today's lesson with my instructor, he wanted me to get a better feel for compas on some of the earlier pieces we've covered. My instructor went back and marked additional golpes throughout the piece according to the accent of the alegrias. Some of the the techniques involved doing golpes while the thumb played downstokes simultaneously. Another technique involved doing golpes at the end of an isami rasgueados where the golpe is hit simultaneously as the last i downstroke. These weren't too difficult, but then my instructor started marking golpes in the falseta during im picado runs. I have a very hard time hitting golpe while at the same time doing picado with the im fingers. I have not seen this technique used in any flamenco videos. Is this used very often? If someone could provide some youtube videos or guide on this technique it would be very helpful. Thank you for reading!

Sometimes you can tap with your right-hand thumb on the upper plate, but your teacher can probably give you the best explanation.

No.

VietFlamenco are you sure u not reading it wrong ? he might just mean accent certain notes in the picado...its pretty close to impossible doing glopes during picado...well i have never ever seen it...surely u must have read it wrong or he must have made a mistake writing it..or meant accents

simultaneous to im runs ??? that dosent sound like healthy technique [:D] what about supporting your thumb on the base strings for security ? not to mention it sounds superhuman doing picado with im and tapping with the thumb at the same time, what else is he doing making a cafelate with the left hand at the same time :-)))...who does this ? i demand to know [:)]

i just cant imagine it

Arash -> RE: Golpe Help (Sep. 29 2010 16:34:10)

i think its pretty clear that he means Golpe during a picado and not something else because the rest of his post is also clear and makes sence.

i have never seen golpe with picado either.

my guess: his teacher made a mistake and marked the wrong places for doing the Golpes

i know his post is clear, i am not referring to that...sorry my bad, i wasent clear on who i was writing to in the post above i fixed it..., i am referring to his teachers hand writing ...he might have read that wrong or the teacher wrote it wrong or explained his signs wrong or wrote it too close to another sign ( in hand writting it can happen) is my only guess.....what is the tab sign for glope anyway ?

i know in a alegria is typical to start a picado run on the 1...and often i tap on the 12 gently to keep track and get ready for it...if i tried to write it down and accidentally put it too close to the first picado notes it can look like i want someone to do the tap simultaneously...i dont know i just cant think of any other explonation

acctualy VietFlamenco if you have acces to a scanner u can scan it and upload it...we can take a look at it try to figure it out...it will be eazy enough to tell you from whats around it

XXX -> RE: Golpe Help (Sep. 29 2010 16:48:19)

you could make a golpe by pressing down during picado, but i dont think it sounds good, more like an accident. i have heard it happening only 2 times or so.

Okay guys, hopefully this will clear up some confusion. I made a scan of one of the pieces. It's a Farucas. You can clearly see where the instructor marked G for golpe where the accent should be on the 1,3,5, and 7th beats in a Farruca. I still can't comprehend how I would be able to golpe while using my im fingers to play the melody. As far as i'm concern, no one uses this.

Your teacher is clearly a lunatic. [:D]

I'd learn the golpe's for the compas sections only, and then politely ask him to demonstrate the golpe's on the other sections.

NormanKliman -> RE: Golpe Help (Sep. 29 2010 21:44:23)

Looks to me like some kind of mistake or misunderstanding.

Florian -> RE: Golpe Help (Sep. 30 2010 0:44:41)

yeah like Norman says... looks like a mistake or misunderstanding, i wouldnt worry about it, do the glopes u can ...in rhythm and even between notes...but dont worry about the other ones ...or ask him to clarify...besides if such thing exists...he would know its not commonly used so he might have shown you..

now i am curious to see him play..is there any vids of him on youtube ?

James Ashley Mayer -> RE: Golpe Help (Sep. 30 2010 17:48:42)

Did he mark these as picado runs with i and m? Is it possible that these are pulgar falsetas that you misinterpreted as being played with picado?

devilhand -> RE: Golpe Help (Dec. 25 2020 13:54:18)

Is Paco Cepero playing golpe with middle finger downstroke at 1:32? Which finger is playing golpe here at 3:15? Looks like it's golpe above strings in both cases.

Looks like the middle. Not really an important detail imo though

.

Techique is called “capirote”...done with m finger, but others use the i finger...you hit above the 6th string. I don’t recommend you do this until you have a proper flamenco guitar with low bridge set up.

That's insane, unless you count foot taps as Golpe :-).

So no one has seen golpe de puño? Golpe nudillo?
