Chiste de Gales -> A good spanish language series (Sep. 25 2010 13:09:24)

Im quite pleased to have found this:

The wonderfully produced "Destinos" spanish language lesson series is free online here:

http://www.learner.org/resources/series75.html

One weird thing I have to do to get it to play is:
Press play button for the episode I want. The page reloads. Press the same button
again and then the episode will play.

Its like a mystery-soap opera. It keeps you interested in the story while cleverly
teaching useful terms in context. Also you can turn on closed captioning and read
the dialogue too. You do see a lot of &NBSP all over the captions though.

Lastly, theres a half decent Tangos played in a flamenco scene 5 minutes into episode 10. The dancing is a bit sleepy.

Definitely an amazing method. That is how I learned Spanish. But watching the episodes by themselves will not get you to learn Spanish, if you are serious about learning, you will have to buy the theory and exercises books.

Another thing about the episodes is that it makes you visit all the Spanish speaking countries so you see the differences in accents, vocabulary and discover the cultures. It's really well made.

Everyone I mention that to say 'what! You can't learn by yourself!' Not with this. Plus you go at your own pace, which is really fast if you are dedicated to it.

Of course you cant learn Spanish with only lesson videos!

However- its a great resource for people with basic knowledge who want
to practice recognition.

I took 2 years of Spanish class in high school, one year in college, and always end up needing to speak the odd phrase or two since I live in Texas. Since Ive decided that someday Id like to go to Spain and have a few lessons there, Id better improve my Spanish. Also, the guest performers of the flamenco group I play with often have trouble with English.

So- I do enjoy watching these lessons and committing to memory new and useful vocab. I always keep a dictionary ready when I watch.
I'll pause when I find a word that I think I can use, and Ill look it up.
