at_leo_87 -> my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 11 2010 16:18:23)

hey guys,
i got my new francisco navarro concert model yesterday! i ordered it from ron hudson from memorial music. he was SUPER friendly and helpful and gave me a killer price! i really enjoyed doing business with him. the guitar arrived in a quick one week. i HIGHLY recommend this gentleman!

the guitar is REALLY nice and it keeps getting better! the action is perfect and it's so much easier to play. and louder!

i couldn't be happier with my purchase. [:)]

the only weird thing was that it came with an ebony shim under the saddle which was so small and thin, i dont think it was necessary. and my left hand fingers are turning black for some reason!

Wow, beautiful! That's many hours of ecstasy.

She is gorgeous! I love the headstock.

ngiorgio -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 11 2010 17:04:23)

Nice looking guitar. Congrats and good luck with it.

It looks like a Concert model. As to your LH fingers turning black, that could be from too much oil on the fretboard and/or dye may have been used on the ebony to make it an even color. You may want to pull the strings off and wipe the fingerboard down and see how much black comes off.

Care to share the pricing from Ron Hudson?

at_leo_87 -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 11 2010 17:40:33)

yup, it's the concert model. i think it must be a dye. i'm too lazy to take off the strings, i'll just play it and deal with the mess later. [:D]

i dont know if i want to share the price openly. i would feel bad if everyone came running to ron and asking for that same price. i'll just say that he's a really nice guy and will work out something that will be a win-win situation. [:)]

i'm taking it to dance class to show it off and break it soon. time to get my fingers nice and black. [:D]

Andy Culpepper -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 11 2010 18:17:43)

Looks nice. Where's the soundport o.O

VietFlamenco -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 11 2010 18:34:39)

I believe this was the same guitar Ron offered me, but I didn't buy because I wanted pegs. The pictures you took definitely look nicer than the ones he sent me. I can only hope when Tom Nunez send me my student model flamenco-2, it'll sound just as good.

Couple of questions for you.
1) How high is the action at the 12th fret?
2) How is the playability?
3) I read in another thread that Michalob suggested the nut and saddle be replace on Francisco Navarro guitars for best results. Is this necessary?

Let me know when you have another youtube video out with your new guitar, I want to check out the sound.

at_leo_87 -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 11 2010 19:08:18)

no soundport just yet! im still exploring her. chances i wont get one though. this thing is pretty loud. but we'll see. i still have to test it at gigs and such.

although, i am itching to customize her a bit. i might get black horn saddle and nut.

viet, i borrowed my girlfriend's expensive dslr camera. i am sure yours will look fantastic!
1) the action is about 3mm. i used a very cheap, crude measuring device. it came with an ebony shim for some reason. i took it out and it still plays and sounds nice.
2) the playability is great. for the right hand, the strings have much more spring and rebound than my old guitar. i think you luthier folks call this pulsation. the left hand is super easy as well. i dont see any need for any further adjustments. the strings are much closer to the body than i am used to. playing feels much easier on this guitar.
3) i really dont see any need for any adjustments though gj may be aware of something i am not. im pretty sure they are made out of bone. i might replace the saddle anyways. the saddle it came with is a hair bit loose, and i mean a hair. i'm very ocd about this. im sure it doesn't even matter.

Just replace the strings and clean the fretboard, I had the same issue.

Also use something like violin oil on the bridge, it probably was completely dry.

Your headstock looks better than mine, same shape, but the woodstructure. Also the soundboard looks better....for the rest its just an ugly guitar, but you will embrace it [:D]

I am lookiing forward to hear it!

Absolutely beautiful, Anthony! She must play like a dream!!

Congratulations!! [:)] [:)] [:)]

at_leo_87 -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 11 2010 22:28:33)

thanks guys!
my fingers are starting to become less black now. kozz, i dont replace strings until they die, resurrect as zombie strings, and then die again. [:D]

thanks for the review graham! i'll check it out.

doit, the heater is not on at the moment. i do, however, keep it next to the exercise bike to remind myself that i am getting fat. [:D]

guitarvlog, my dreams are nightmares compared to this guitar!

Estevan -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 12 2010 2:18:44)

Enhorabuena! Mashallah!
You've certainly earned it. Make sure you play all the notes so it opens up nicely. [;)]

Oh man, you got a decent guitar at last, don't vandalize it! [:-]

VietFlamenco -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 12 2010 2:54:12)

Also forgot to ask what strings/tension are you using on the guitar?

ok fine. no more drilling. [:D]
i thought i would at least get it converted to a 12 hole bridge, but there's just absolutely no room!

it came with luthier dark silver or something like that. i stopped noticing string brands a long time ago. they all just die within 4 days. [:@]

ToddK -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 12 2010 3:46:15)

Wow, that is beautiful!!!! You must be totally amped!

That luthier has been getting GLOWING reviews on his ability to reproduce that
Reyes magic.

Looks like you did your research before buying, great job!

Enjoy it!!
TK

at_leo_87 -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 12 2010 5:28:36)

thanks todd! every time i walk past it, i HAVE to pick it up and play something! not only am i excited to just have the guitar, im excited to see how it'll change.

i did a ton of research and this really was the best option for my budget, atm.

You lucky bastard [;)] [:)]
concratulations! The guitar looks beautiful. I really like the head stock, simple but elegant.
So when will get to enjoy a sound sample?

Our thoughts are alike....just keep it as it is, although black rollers are nice. (I just used a black permanent marker [;)])

beno -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 12 2010 20:46:08)

Congratulations Anthony!

This guitar looks sooo beautiful! what's for the smell of it? Are they much stronger on a new guitar? That bridge looks super low! I was thinking of buying a FN, but finally went for a Castillo, which is to arrive in a week or two, so I feel for You!

kovachian -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 12 2010 22:15:17)

Tom B. is right on the money by stating that Navarro has arrived. His personal work, and his shop's work, represents some of the best values on the market in my humble opinion.

This is just me, but I don't care much for the tuners he uses. [:)] I replaced 'em with black rollers & Cocobolo buttons to match the fingerboard.

RTC -> RE: my new francisco navarro! (Sep. 12 2010 22:59:58)

Anthony:
Can you post a Bulerias, Fandangos or Soleares with your new guitar. Would like to listen to that beutifull guitar you just got.
