Lucerom -> Guitar Pro 6: What's Your Opinion and How Do You Use It (Aug. 30 2010 16:22:45)

I just discovered Guitar Pro now has a version 6. I was considering purchasing the software to practice new material, transcribe pieces, and create my own scores for students (I'd like to teach in the future).

Here are some of my questions for the community. Feel free to answer what ever applies to you:

• Do you currently use Guitar Pro 6 and how do you like it?
• How well does the software transcribe Flamenco? (i.e. strumming patterns, glopes, accented notes, etc.)
• What type of training tools are available (fretboard trainer, chord finder, scale trainer, etc.)?
• How are you primarily utilizing the software (for practice, transcribing, etc.)?
• Is the software difficult to use (does it have steep learning curve)?
• Do you have to have a solid understanding of standard notation in order to transpose?
• Can you use it in place of a drum machine to practice compás?
• I consider myself a beginning student. At what stage should I consider purchasing this software?

Also, if there is any other information you can think of please feel free to add.

As always thank you for your valued opinions amigos.

Why don´t you just try the demo.

Its ok. I dont use it anymore because I have no time for that anymore.

I'm definitely going to download the demo, but nothing compares to feedback from existing users.

Okay, so I finally broke down and purchased GuitarPro 6 about a week ago and am really enjoying it. Although the software itself if quite intuitive, the user help guide / manual is rather weak.

I was curious if anybody could provide some assistance on the following:
• What configuration settings would you recommend to get a good flamenco guitar sound? I currently have it set to Nylon Guitar, No ringing. What else can I do to make it sound more like Flamenco Guitar and less like a midi keyboard?
• Does anybody use the drum track?
• What sounds do you use for the golpe, cajon, palmas sordas, etc…

Also if anybody has already created some compás rhythms in GuitarPro for palos such as Tangos, Solea, etc… Could you possibly post them? I would like to add some backing tracks to my transcriptions so I can practice with the compás.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

you would have to run it thru a different midi engine. right now you have it set to general midi, probably ms standard. you could try to look under midi playback devices and see if you can change it. after that you can look for some good midi vst stuff with guitar sounds.

my point is, it will never sound good.

I used gp5 plenty and have been tinkering with gp6 recently

I think it is a massive improvement. I really like it and think it has a lot more features to reveal.

although i too am yet to find a decent sound besides nylon. howeverim sure there is a way to add some of the effects pedals, eqs etc to make the nylon guitar sound more like a flamenco guitar..ill let ya know if i ever find a way.

As I remember the free gp-viewer cant view gp files of GP5-update1 and above. So... if you want to share your tabs. Or you want somebody to have a quick look on that.. I would go for GP4 or lower. (Coz.. most people wouldnt buy the software only to read the tabs..) All necessary functions are available in older versions, too. U dont really need GP6.
A sheet of paper and a pen are also fast IMO. Or a video.. Nowadays its not a very big deal to record a video and share that. In combination with a sheet tab... its perfect IMO. And you dont need to spend time relearning how to hack gp-tabs in the computer.
