When I was in Spain in October I arranged with Pedro Maldonado and his son Luis for them to make two new models which will be in every way, but adornment the quality of his top concert models-- a flamenco guitar -- "Andalucia Model" and a concert classical -- "Concertista Model". These less adorned guitars will be nearly early half the price of their top concert models. They are able to do this, because It turns out that rosettes, fancy perflings, etc. are very time consuming. Anyway, I received them today, and have been playing them against their top models, not only is the quality of sound is every bit as good, but the simple decorations are truly elegant-- and the guitars are every bit as well made in every respect. These are truly concert instruments.

I have put together a photo essay providing more information on the new Maldonado models which includes mp3 samples that allow one to compare them to their top models.

Hi James,

Yes! you're right, Maldonados are very fine guitars. I tried his Andalucia guitar earlier this year in Torremolinos and it was a very good instrument.

I commissioned a 1a cedar/cypress which should be here in February 05. Simple details and I chose the rosette. The great thing is that Pedro Maldonado (Ruiz) has good English and is very kind and willing to take note of any special requirements.

BTW, I have enjoyed visiting your web site for many years now and thank you for getting the chance to see and hear all those marvellous guitars.

Have a good Christmas.

Jim.

Jim,

Actually, the Andalucia model you tried was an earlier verision. This model is
at the same level acoustically as their 1AF model, but because of its simplier
decorations is almost half the price.

I have replaced the mp3 that Gonzalo Andres Molano recorded for us by one made by
Gaetano. Gonzalo is a fine classical player, but Gaetano is a true flamenco guitarists, and brings forth the guitars real flamenco character.
