I have heard often that a a guitar built in Spain may not survive or sound any good even if moved just from it's origin city to another region in Spain. Is this true?

So that brings me to my question, if I was to buy a decent guitar in Spain (I plan to travel and take lesson there for a few months), what and where should I get a guitar that could survive the transition to western Canada (usually humid all year around), and also eastern Canada (very humid in summer, very dry indoors in winter).

it's the low humidity that's the scary stuff. high humidity can be easily controlled with air conditioning. low humidity can be dealt with using room humidifiers, special humidifying guitar cases, or some diy stuff, try a search.

about the sound quality, that's up to your ears if you hear it or not, i doubt it's science.

So what would make for a more easily maintainable, resilient and adaptable guitar? One made in a low-humidity region or made in a high-humidity region?

what determines a guitar's resiliency is more than where's it's made. it's also where the woods are from, how they are cut, and how well aged they are plus probably a billion other factors that the lutheirs here can tell you about.

but most importantly, it's up to you how well your guitar is maintained. plenty of people guitars from spain and bring it back to wherever they're from with no problems.

bottom line is, it's probably not a good idea to choose your guitar based on where it's from, unless it's from a desert or rainforest. dont worry, first things first, go to the ten gazillion shops in spain and try out each guitar. that's the fun part, worry about that other stuff later. [:D]

if you're really worried, check out the luthiery section. there's a thread about jeff sigurdson, i believe he's in canada.

Thank you!

Well noted. You are right, that would be a lot of fun to hop shops and bang away as many guitars as I can.
