Hallo! Do anyone have an idea about how to accompany malaguena baile? I've found something on youtube, and they dance on libre part and also the rhythmic part (verdiales, rondena or abandolao). Does anyone have an experience about it?

Well, this will be dance workshops. Probably the dancer can sing a bit, but i'm not sure. If she does, ok, but anyway better to know before, and not learn during the workshops. So If you have any idea, post please.

If you've got a cantaor, well, you've got to accompany him/her and the dancer would do the choreograph around that. So it should be reasonably simple. If you haven't got one, it would become a bit more tricky since you'll have to take the lead, and provide the necessary melody. If you're really good then you could create a whole falseta(s) in libre for them to dance upon - I would stick to the general structure of a conventional Malaguena though. Or if you're lazy (and not quite good enough) like me, I would play the cante melody myself and put the chords around it. Like Chocolate's one which most would recognise. This would save me and the dancers from working too hard to figure out what's coming next. As for abandolao (or Verdiales or whatever), it should be pretty much straightforward rhythmic stuff so just play as if you're accompanying cante and the dancers should be able to fit around you. Of course when I say they would "fit" their dance around you, you'll have to pay them enough attention so you fit to them too! Really you should get in touch with the dancers, and ask them what their choreograph is based on. I don't think they would change what they've got now so you'd better fit your playing into their thing. I hope that answers your question somewhat. Good luck![:)]

Well, ?I don't know why I didn't think about it (I mean contacting her). And I did it. The answer was: Don't worry,:) We will dance to cante, and the footwork will be por ulerias. So I know a bit. Anyway, the advice of creating libre falsetas for dance is great. It can take a bit of sweat, but that's what it should take. Cante melody line is also ok, the problem is: I won't have enough time for it. I guess, there may be some more people courious, how malaguena works for dance, so I will try to report. \|Thanks.

Hello. It took a bit of time to be back here. I wrote Iwill report about accompanying malaguena at dance classes. I was mainly improvising to what they were doing, and finding the most suitable melodies and chord progressions to it. I used small parts of malaguena and fandango arpeggios and trmolos, scales. Then there was a part of footwork to rhythm on muted strings (six counted measures), and finally a part with rondena compass. So nothing special,but it was great fun. Anyway, thanks to por medio. Your advice was quite useful.
