Grisha -> Tientos recommendation? (Jul. 6 2010 16:41:50)

I love this palo! The problem is, the best ones are with cante. The solo ones I've heard are nothing that special. Today I decided to learn one of the two recorded by Paco, probably the one from El Duende Flamenco, with the ending from Llanto a Cadiz. Does anybody know a good/great tientos that I can learn after that? Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, friends! [:)]

Hi Grisha,

I've always liked this one from Rafael Riqueni.

Thanks a lot! I cannot find it on the CDs I have. Which record is it from?

Perhaps Paco's El Tesorillo from Cositas Buenas? (Has a bit of cante though.)

Grisha –

Tientos has always been one of my favorite palos, and one that I think has not enjoyed the kind of popularity that I feel it deserves. As for recommendations, I always thought Carlos Montoya played an excellent Tientos. I have numerous recordings that I could put onto audio cassette tape for you. There is a wonderful Tientos on YouTube by Manolo Santos.

I really like the way he plays everything. Check out his Siguiriyas, Granadinas, Malaguenas, and a gorgeous Alegrias in E. He is also a fine accompanist.

A few other puro examples are Cai Calorri Niño Ricardo on Toque Flamencos de Guitarra also the Tientos de Niña de los Peines on Cantes Gitanos, there is also Carmen Linares doing a version of the Tientos de Niña de los Peines on La Mujer en El Cante, and there is Antonio Mairena Tientos/Tangos on El Calor de Mis Recuerdos. I know you mentioned sin Cante, but ... And the Montoya I have is more of a Seguiriya - Tientos

I don't have the recording handy anymore, but try to check out the album "Flamenco por los cuatro costaos" by Ian Davies. It has a nice Tientos on it.

you are right its a greate palo...but i havent found many interesting ones that i can just listen to over and over...nicest thing i found in it is a short intro by Jesus de Rosario from Juana la Loca album 5 - Traición, pelea_Tientos-Seguiriya-Soleá por Bulerías...and Alo does a very nice falseta from Vicente which i love...besides that i dont like anything else i heard so far...

heres the short intro by Jesus
