Hi alll--
I'm building two Blancas, both based on the Reyes plan.
1. Engelmann Spruce top with Spanish Cypress
2. Sitka Spuce top with Spanish Cedar

Questions are:

- Anyone ever build a Blanca with Spanish Cedar back and sides? Lining, Bracing and neck are also Spanish Cedar. Does the extra stiffness of the Sitka overpower the Spanish Cedar in any way?

- I'm thinking to brace the Engelmann top with the Sitka fan struts and the Sitka top with the Engelmenn fan struts. Reason being is the Sitka is stiffer than the Engelmann and thought this could balance the top stiffness.

Is a Sitka top with Sitka fan bracing overly stiff unless I thin the part some more?

Appreciate any advice from the forum. Thanks.

Interesting choices and of course both guitars could work quite nicely. If nothing else it would be a learning experience for working with different brace wood and b/s wood.
As long as the stiffness of your top and bracing is correct it should sound good regardless of the type of spruce. Although the sound might be somewhat different than if you used all European for example.
Sitka on sitka might be a little over the top especially with the bridge patch and all that. It might be hard to get the resonance right without going super thin.
Just my thoughts...

Makes complete sense. My reason for doing this is really to try out different ideas and learn, so let's see what happens. Thanks Deteresa.
