I don't even watch soccer (football), but we were at a (Spanish) restaurant the other night and the TV was on on the other side of a wall. I figured it wasn't tuned in properly or a speaker was broken or something, because there was this constant buzz.

Later they switched the TV over to the formula 1 and the noise levels went way down. [:D]

Escribano -> RE: Ban the Vuvu? Yes or No? (Jun. 14 2010 1:16:00)

Good grief, yes.

Ron.M -> RE: Ban the Vuvu? Yes or No? (Jun. 14 2010 6:32:21)

Certainly not!

The sole reason I watch these boring and silly games of a ball being kicked about by grown men is to enjoy the harmonious tones of thousands of players of this wonderful instrument.

There should be a "Vuvu Challenge" for the best composition featuring Vuvu and guitar IMO.

cheers,

Ron

No way man, we can't just "piss on the strawberry's" of the Africans with our stuffy, overtly serious take on sports.

Let them enjoy 'their' moment.

sean65 -> RE: Ban the Vuvu? Yes or No? (Jun. 14 2010 8:54:52)

Cool, I think I just found a way of bypassing the swear sensor [:D]

Well, actually they "piss on their own strawberry's"g.
Many Bars in South Africa play TV, but now turn off the sound completely and play music instead, because of this Vuvu.
I saw this yesterday on TV.

So, YES !![:D] Ban the Vuvu

Yes, as mentioned, i saw it on German TV yesterday.

God itself (aka Blatters) said : No way!
I'm with him, earplugs are way better [:D][8D]

I'm pretty sure the broadcasters can manage this to shut down the trouble on tv. It's just a question of sound engineering imo, but this may reduce the mega-beneficit-profit...is too unfair[X(]

I think the South Africa vs France (3rd and last pool party on the group A which will be decisive) will be the ULTIMATE vuvusoundskilla...France will have at least an excuse if it does not qualify[:D]

XXX -> RE: Ban the Vuvu? Yes or No? (Jun. 14 2010 10:54:55)

Some cities in Germany have forbidden the use of it in public viewing places [:)]
Can you imagine the final game, the most important game of this year - and then "Vuuuu" all the game through? I cant. Recently i saw a "bullfighter gored" thread. This is like billions of people being gored in front of the TVs. Why do they go into the stadium anyway if all they want is to Vuuu? They're ruining it for everybody else...

tilsitter -> RE: Ban the Vuvu? Yes or No? (Jun. 15 2010 0:56:54)

I like the vuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu over the Schlaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand.
Another good thing, you canĀ“t hear the reporters

avimuno -> RE: Ban the Vuvu? Yes or No? (Jun. 15 2010 1:50:38)

I went to see a game and.... OMG... it's a dangerous assault on your ears... trust me, what you hear on TV is nothing compared to the live sound!
I respect that Africans wish to keep them as an integral part of 'football culture' in Africa, but they also should respect that some people might wish to keep their hearing intact... The best way to go would be to commercialize quieter ones.

Oh yes. Shouting Schland "does not go at all", to say it in german :->

Sbu_01 -> RE: Ban the Vuvu? Yes or No? (Jun. 16 2010 23:05:31)

I cant believe no on has brought this up, but I love it when Spain would play and the fans would shout "OLE" every time a player would out maneuver an opponent. Now it just sounds like a bee hive on TV i can barely hear the commentators.

I am so glad uruguay beat south africa and the fans started to quiet down with the vuvucela, some even started to leave the stadium

It is not the same. BAN them BAN THEM ALL!!!!!!!!

I think the vuvuzela would make a very appropriate addition to any over-produced flamenco album that features a lot of electric bass, percussion, flute/brass/harmonica.

On the other hand, if you want to watch the football without hearing the vuvus some kind-hearted audio engineers have come to the rescue:
