ralexander -> found a guitar - thanks all (Jun. 3 2010 19:33:53)

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I've been a steel string player for 16 years, and I'm looking for my first flamenco. My budget is $2-3k, and I am considering all options. I would like to find a nice guitar available in Canada so I can avoid border fees.

Thanks in advance!

You might want to check out some of the Canadian guitar makers. I have read a few post about them here on the forum. Ask on the Luthier section about them.
Good luck!

I can recommend the guitars of Jeff Sigurdson, a guitar maker in BC. Great guitars, and great value for the money. Ordering one from him would take several months to a year though. There is a guy named Rudy in Toronto (I think) who's often on the foro and usually has a Sigurdson for sale if you don't want to wait. Last I saw he had a Conde 'homage' built by Jeff listed at 2450 USD. His off ebay price should be a bit less. Good luck -- and welcome to the world of flamenco. A word of caution, there's no going back! Once you're in, you won't want to play anything else...

I just remembered, his ebay use name is elkabong. May be his foro user name too. A good guy. Though his prices are sometimes a bit high, you can trust him completely.

I have a Sigurdson student model, and I can tell you these guitars play very nice.

I am selling a 2007 Tom Blackshear Blanca in mint condition for $3000.00. A new one is $7500.00. See some photos and a poor quality video below. I would have to ship from Pittsburgh PA.

Thanks everyone - I've been doing lots of research, and have already contacted Jeff Sigurdson. Unfortunately, his current lead time is 9 months which is longer than I want to wait at the moment. I also found a nice looking Blanca by Luis Feu de Mesquita on kijiji toronto, but the guy isn't responding so it may have been sold already.

I did see elkabong's Sigurdson on ebay about a week ago. I have considered it, but I think I want machines for this guitar. Also a bit unsure about the use of Lutz - I had a custom steel string with a Lutz top and it was very good, but I have not found any other luthiers using it for B&S which puts me off a little. I'm sure it is probably an awesome guitar, but I've learned a lesson recently - since I tend to change guitars pretty often, I need to find something that is more saleable.

chapman_g - I'm sending you a few questions on the Blackshear, thanks =)

Also check out John Park in BC. He makes a great flamenco instrument.

Hey have you checked out Marcus dominelli's guitars? He's in Victoria BC. A great guy and a first class luthiere...absolutely gorgeous guitars! I've played his flamencos and they are the real deal! Check out his site: www.dominelliguitars.com

Cheers.

ralexander -> RE: WTB: Flamenco guitar in Canada (Jun. 4 2010 19:52:13)

I've added John Park and Marcus Dominelli to my list - thanks guys!

I've tempted by the Sigurdson on ebay, but I'm still a bit unsure about the Lutz back and sides. Rudy offered me a nice price for direct sale, and on top of Jeff's rep is sure is a looker:

Anyone else have something for sale? Instruments located in US are also of interest, assuming the seller is OK with shipping.

ralexander -> RE: WTB: Flamenco guitar in Canada (Jun. 7 2010 18:28:44)

I've had some interesting offers, thanks to everyone who has replied!

I'm leaning heavily towards a blanca at this point.

Anyone who is thinking of selling a guitar up to $3k US please drop me a line with some details.
