Leendert -> Question about an Alvarez guitar. (May 30 2010 12:59:57)

Hello everyone, I have a question about a Alvarez guitar, which I hope maybe one of you can help me out with. I have only recently (few months) started learning to play flamenco and have started on a Manuel RodriguezC3F, which I know is a beginner guitar. Now, slowly I`m starting to look into some guitars which might be a (small) step up from this.
I found this guy, locally who is selling a 1970 Alvarez Yairi guitar, he said it is handmade (however in Japan), in good condition and asks $ 600 for the guitar.
He also had the bridge lowered on it and the guitar has peg tuners.
I have not seen the guitar in person yet, but that might be my next step.
I`m not familiar at all with this guitar, so what do you guys think?
Would it be a similar guitar as I`m already having? A step up? Or a piece of crap?
Thank you....

The Yairi Alvarez guitars were ok Japanese guitars. They sold for less than $600 when new and were not hand made. Is a 40 year old Japanese factory guitar worth $600? You'll have to decide, I know what my answer would be.

At $600, I'd rather save up another $100 and then buy a Navarro.

Spot on GV!!!!

At 700$ a Navarro. I think it's a no brainer!

Thank you all for your help....when you sum it up like that, it seems the $600 would be a waste....Navarro Guitars, hey?....I`ll be doing some research on those now:)
Thanks again!

Thanks @ M.S.A for posting the video..
However I have been reading a lot and have been browsing Youtube
as well to hear a lot of different guitars (although sometimes it`s hard to tell how a guitar actually is gonna sound in your own hands and live)...but I think I really fell in love with the Salvador Castillo guitars and their sound...those seem amazing!
Of course they are way more expensive and out of my budget for now, I also do not feel like I deserve a guitar of that caliber yet, since I`m mere a beginner with Flamenco (even though I have played guitar for almost 20 years)..
But I think it`s a wise call if I just hold off on buying any guitar for a while, get better at playing and save up for one of those beautiful Castillo`s!! Until then I`ll just keep beating the crap out my Manuel Rodriquez :) Ole!!
