the rest of the month will be spent all over italy (Venezia, Dolomites, Verona, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Firenze, Roma and finally Napoli area).

When will you be in Venice, Shroomy? I will be there -as I do every summer- from June 28 through July 20 (and am encouraging Simon to join me for a few days). If you should be there at the same time, or need suggestions about Venice, Verona, Padova, Florence and Rome, send me an email.

Hi Shroomy,

Can't believe you're gonna give Andalucia a miss? [:-]

Anyway, have a good time!

(If this goes on we're gonna have to shut the Foro down for the Summer recess. [:D])

cheers,

Ron

what is the best way to pay for things? Or to lose the least amount of money possible from the Dollar to Euro conversion? I have decided to do a Credit Card and ATM mix, but I could really use some advice on what's best. I am going on a VERY tight budget.

In Italy most establishment will NOT honor American Express (as it imposes high fees on the seller). I recommend that you use a Credit/Debit card, Master Card or Visa –also doubling as ATM. When using this type of Credit/Debit card you lock the exchange rate at time of purchase, with no hidden costs or fluctuating exchange rates.
However, speak to your banker and confirm you can use the card abroad to withdraw cash.

When in Naples, make sure people know you are from Argentina. Diego Armando Maradona, el nino de oro, is still worshipped in that region (and I too preserve as a relic a n. 10 Argentine natioanl jersey signed by Diego during the 1982 worldcup in Spain).

While in Venice, I recommend you dine alle ‘Zattere” (various terrace-paltforms protruding on the water). Best and most romantic “ombre rosse” (red shadows or shades, because of the wonderful sunset –a 6pm dinner would turn magic). However, choose the one where you see young kids and students, as a sign of a more affrodable restaurant.

If you get sick of tourists, you may want to visit Padova, where I grew up. It is an awesome medeval city, 30 mins by train form Venice (and trains run every 30 minutes throughout the day). There will be a myriad of chairs and tables on the cabblestones squares serving decent German beer nearly all night long.

Too bad we cannot coordinate a flamenco meeting… however I also will be travelling guitar-less, but justly so, I will dedicate those three weeks to my girls.

Have a safe and exciting trip, and congratulations on your honey-moon.

Also, going to a country that speaks Spanish is not enough of a challenge for me

Trust me, Andaluz is a challenge [8|]
