Hi all Just like to share with anyone interested. Just purchased my first flamenco guitar, a Joan Cashimira model 105...and what a revelation it is! I've been practising flamenco technique on my classical over the last year and now with this new beauty things just feel and sound right (well as far as I can play them that is!). Just one question about golpeadors. The guitar didn't come with one and so I'm using this removable extra tough Klingon protector which is supposed to a substitute for a permanent plate. I got it from Stafford guitar centre. Would having a proper golpeador fixed on make any difference to the sound of the taps? I think they sound a bit dull compared to what I hear...but this may just be my technique... Any thoughts anyone? Cheers Dave S

I think the plates that need to be glued on are thicker and therefore sound different. Many luthiers express that the sound of the guitar changes after the plate goes on, so I am a little concerned that a flamenco guitar was sold with no golpeador.

Thanks Ricardo. That's interesting. The shop offered to fix one on...they said the Cashimira workshop in Spain would send one over on request and seemed to be of the opinion that normally guitars don't come out of the factories with plates attached but it's the shops that normally fix them on. So I suppose I should take the guitar back to the shop and have a plate put on? This removable one seems to be working in the sense that I've used it on my classical for a year and it hasn't damaged the body in anyway...but it's getting the authentic sound that I'm really concerned about... Cheers anyway

I think those are to prevent french polished classicals from getting nail marks and and scrapes from in experienced players. Not really for specific techniques of tapping on the soundboard like golpe.

I use Kling-ons on my guitar. It's the heavier duty one with purple package. I have found that they stay on good as glue even when bashing about, as long as you put them on properly. I must admit that they're a little smallish especially the one on bass side, but as long as I'm accurate that's not an issue. As for the authentic sound, it's probably more to do with your golpe techniques [;)] I have found them to be sounding just fine. The instruction tells me to remove them when not playing but I just can't be bothered and I leave them....
