La Sonanta -> Biographies of Flamenco Guitar Luthiers (May 12 2010 14:47:37)

Driven by our admiration for the very hard work of artisan guitar luthiers, we are building a central database of web pages honoring and describing the work of guitar luthiers that all deserve our support and humble respect to keep going on with the incredible hard work they are doing each single day, enabling us all to play these magnificent flamenco guitars. We have started an overview on Flamenco guitar makers. To make the overview as accurate as possible, we would like to ask you if you can send us your recommendations and biographies of fine flamenco guitar luthiers . This would be very much appreciated, thank you already.

Can you please tell who's shop the attached photo was taken in? That is the most beautiful outside mould I have ever seen.

Thank you for your nice words, that photo was made at the workshop of Juan Montero Aguilera in Cordoba. Will add another picture of him. Enjoy.

Can you or one of the other luthiers tell me a bit about the shims used at the locking brace (or whatever it's called):

Is that simply because it's easier to put it in place and then shim it to snug it up (and it's likely he always uses two shims), or is this a process where he will gradually add more shims?

Ricardo -> RE: Biographies of Flamenco Guitar Luthiers (May 12 2010 18:36:42)

That guitar looks like one Paco played before:

I recommend for your site bios on Esteso, and Sanchis, Jeronimo Peña Fernandez, Arcangel fernandez, Reyes, Antonio marin montero, and mr Andelusian....

Just kidding, but please take that Andelusion crap off.

HemeolaMan -> RE: Biographies of Flamenco Guitar Luthiers (May 12 2010 19:54:36)

I recommend Stephen Faulk, Carlos Isidro de Frontera, Manuel de Chico, Marcelo Barbero and ..... anyone else i could think of

Everyone has different systems for using moulds and soleras etc. The wooden buckle he's using to close it is shimmed to make it snug. He probably just uses enough pressure to keep the ribs in place until they get glued in.

I commented on the mould because it looks like whoever made it had training as a pattern maker for sand casting moulds. It has the telltale signs of pattern makers logic. Beautiful stuff.
