Ron.M -> BBC2 TOTP Special (May 10 2010 12:14:09)

HaHa!

Did anybody watch the BBC2 TOTP Special from the 80's tonight?

Wham, Bronski Beat, Adam Ant, Boy George, Pet Shop Boys, Eurythmics, Madness, Dexys Midnight Runners.. etc etc etc!

Exciting, cool and energetic performances!

Great stuff!

Thing is, I seem to remember that as being fairly "modern" and "different generation" stuff at the time...[:-]

Talk about feeling old now!

I suppose true Retro for me means The Kinks, Spencer Davis, Small Faces, The Move.. etc etc...[:D][:D]

cheers,

Ron

even though i was a teenager in 80s, that time was the best time for music (non flamenco) imo. so many good pop/rock/etc. music. great hits.

today 99% BS.
rarely something good.

Grunge and the return of the guitar band was terrible for music.

No more back-up vocals or harmonies... no brass... No hair bands.

For anyone who likes Mark Knopfler, there was a great programme about him on BBC2 last night on Artworks Scotland
Great casual chat and get together with Phil Cunningham.

(It should be there for the next 6 days, but I'm not sure if it's available in the US because of copyright agreements etc.)

I was thinking he looked as old as me...until I realized he IS as old as me! [:D]

cheers,

Ron

Haha
these eighties things are so cool, i was in the first row at the last dire straits concert in basle and i really enjoyed it i've also seen Pink Floyd, the Kinks are so fantastic!
BTW "the Can" is also a great band from the seventies, but not very well known anymore, it's a pity.

here is the can "Vitamin C" yeah!!!

How can you not like music like this?

Ron.M -> RE: BBC2 TOTP Special (May 11 2010 8:18:49)

You're lucky Deniz....you can avoid this, but my daughter has this sort of stuff on all the time on her laptop or phone or on the bloody TV.
I can't get away from it! [:D]

XXX -> RE: BBC2 TOTP Special (May 11 2010 8:28:52)

I wish i could avoid it. Its everywhere, TV, in peoples cars. Not to speak of radio. I havent listen actively to radio since age 18 or so, when i started with guitar. The song above is my no.1 hate song atm. Call me paranoid but everytime i listen to really bad music, i feel my brain cells dying or something. I fear of getting dumb(er), because as soon as i hear it, i automatically start wasting time by thinking about WHO could have made this song and WHY. What was his aim, if not making music? In this song specifically, they changed the voice to give it this "metallic", "edited" effect. In previous times they tried to edit it without the listeners attention. Now they do it just openly. Thats a new dimension.

Arash -> RE: BBC2 TOTP Special (May 11 2010 9:25:17)

LOOL Deniz.
You are not paranoid. I am sure, it makes people dumber.

I am sure some secret power (haha, conspiracy theory) intentionally supports this "music" (or better to say undefinable noises) to make people dumber and dumber till everyone's intelligence is reduced to the level of an Amoeba (not to speak of those who already were dumb as a piece of dry bread).

Same with Germany's next Topmodel or RTL's superstar (ok, this time, and only this time,, it was exceptionally ok, because an Iranian Guy won in Germany! [8D] lol )

Same with all the talkshows: they feed you this sh!t non stop on TV.
I mean, if you were an Alien and would visit earth and watch TV a whole day, you would surely decide to nuke this planet.

I remember watching Adam and the Ants on Top of the pops as a child and my Dad moaning about what utter rubbish it was, and of course I thought he didnt know what he was talking about.
I gotta agree though with the general consensus that pop music now doesnt even seem to have a melody. I mean at least we liked bands that wrote hit after hit melody. That video didnt have a single redeeming feature......OH NOOOO.....I'm turning into my Dad.

Hmmmph... works for me. Any chance you're behind a proxy that blocks it, or you have downloaded an aggressive host file?

You could also try: forums.mvgroup.org
It's in a forums format, so you do have to join. It's free and I've never been spammed by them...
