Andy,
wanted to clarify that the video is Errol (flamenco guru) playing
the Sabicas piece.
I just hosted the clip for him. :)

To Thomas Whitely: I agree with you: Queen of the Gypsies tops them all! Years ago my LP was seriously overplayed & beginning to sound bad. I made a cassette recording, but an acquaintance discarded it! Do you know where I can get a CD of that magnificent performance?

An audio cassette tape is available from Paco Sevilla, along with many other goodies.

Does this ever bring back memories....I saw Sabicas in Denver, Colorado back in the 1970's. I can't remember what guitar he used, probably his Manuel Reyes. I was amazed at his speed, but yet retaining the soul of flamenco. I had all his LP's out at that time and finally sold them last year on ebay. Juan Serreno was a young guy then and living in Chicago...I think and Cordoba was in San Francisco. Anyone remember Carlos Montoya from those days and then appeared Manitis de Plata with his guitar/art gallery. Sabicas is my all time favorite player, but my flamenco hero is Diego del Gastor......

Paul Magnussen -> Sabicas (Grands Figures du Flamenco) (Sep. 25 2011 20:05:06)

Well, I’m a bit late answering this (like, six years) but:

2) labelled Ecos de la Mina (Tarantas), is actually Punta y Tacón (Farruca). There are no tarantas on the album.
7) labelled Ecos jerezanos (Soleá por Bulería), is actually Aires de Triana (Bulerías).
13) labelled Punta y Tacón (Farruca), is actually Brisas de La Caleta (Malagueñas).
15) labelled Brisas de La Caleta (Malagueñas), is actually Ecos jerezanos (Soleá por Bulería).
