silence of the lambs??[:'(]

actually just thinking how do u folk practice when its late , and you have neighbors / kids , wife! , flatmates.

i have seen this crazy mute things, like something stuffed at the bridge, and i can tap rhythms on my butt, but what else can one do.

its like 11.20 here, i really want to play but......just interested

Ramirez -> RE: silenece is golden (May 6 2010 14:33:06)

Just tie a sock around the strings (by the bridge). Works wonders!

minordjango -> RE: silenece is golden (May 6 2010 14:48:46)

every time i do ramirez , my Gf things ive been sniffing cocaine.

i reply just takin the guitar for a stroll.

then she really things im gone

HolyEvil -> RE: silenece is golden (May 6 2010 16:08:18)

i just close the windows.. I live by myself in an apartment, with the windows opened, my neighbours say that they can hear a guitar but not annoyingly loud.

cheers

minordjango -> RE: silenece is golden (May 6 2010 16:26:00)

hey holy,
the folk here get a little angry , they slam the doors and have no idea about personal , space , i try to be nice and play when no body here , but as soon as i do bang /crash , to cold in the park !

all this talk of technique is inspiring me , is it warmer in Oz at the moment !

use to love playing guitar on the beach at St kilda and bondi , when i was there

Rain -> RE: silenece is golden (May 6 2010 19:12:41)

Focus on the left hand, lots of slurs and chord changes.

Stu -> RE: silenece is golden (May 6 2010 23:50:03)

our house is over three floors two rooms at the top, kitchen/lounge in middle and me down the bottom!!! I specifically chose this room to be able to practice late/early...or whenever really. sorry guess that doesnt really help at the moment...but next time you move house..its something to consider. (seriously)

er??? how come? i dont understand how she'd draw this conclusion from a sock on your guitar?

also Jango...please dont think I'm being rude, but its "thinks" not "things" i see you used it twice maybe you know that.... but if not, I just wish to help .

I have to consider all most all above (except for the flatmates) when I practice. Unfortunately, I don't get to practice more than an hour each evening due to my fairly busy life. This is not enough at all and I really need more time. I also have to use a piece of spong under the strings therefore I don't get to hear the real sound [:@]

However, I am convinced that this is the best I can do at my current circumstances and its better to practice like this than not practicing at all.

I do agree with Stu and I will keep this in mind next time I move house.

John O. -> RE: silenece is golden (May 7 2010 0:30:50)

Left hand practice is good. My neigbors told me the worst for them is golpe, and they hear rasgueados against the muted string too, so that's not an option for me.

I practice when everyone else is at work and am dead quiet by 10pm and have no problems. Haven't always been so lucky with neigbors though. I start at 8am and 5 minutes after I start I always hear the shades open in the apartment below mine. Poor guy must have the night shift or something. If he doesn't complain it's his own fault though [:D]

We'll be moving within the city soon and are looking at a very small house for rent today (about 800 f²), would be very cool to have something like that...

cheers folks , .

yeah rasquados and common people dont MIX!!.

its always funny struggling with flamenco , and the technique , then as soon as i play that high B note(hums romance) people are smiling, wow thats beautiful...........

for me i guess i can do a lot of prac away and the Palmas i think is the way to go, as feeling the beat still alludes me .

cheers again, moving soon to Australia for 2 months, are you allowed to play rasquados at BBQ's?

Ron.M -> RE: silenece is golden (May 7 2010 4:46:54)

Best way is just to shave your head, then get a tattoo of barbed wire all the way around it with the letters "HATE" boldly printed on your forehead...

Buy a wifebeater T shirt and keep a big Rottweiler.

Then if someone comes to your door to complain, you just open it and angrily shout "WHAT?"... and they'll just apologise and tiptoe away again without saying anything..[:D]

cheers,

Ron

Argaith -> RE: silenece is golden (May 7 2010 4:56:33)

Ron,

That might work perfectly well with the neighbours but not the inhabitants of one's own house (i.e wife and children).

Please, can you work harder and come up with a solution to keep everyone happy[:D]

Years ago I used to live in an apartment building that was inhabited almost entirely by musicians and artists. There was always something going on and a certain level of noise was accepted as the norm. One day one of the residents got a little too loud, making some kind of electric racket, pounding away on her bass, I think. Our old, eccentric, and lovably cranky on-site manager, Jack, knocked on her door and delivered what to me is one of the all-time greatest one-liners:

"Sounds great! I hope you go real far!

(dramatic pause)

SOON."

all funny and great ideas lads, i really need to decipline myself , tapping rhythms is even fine for me ,

when my flatmates say oh...........hes in there playing that voodoo music again, gets a little tiresome, they are chinese folk , not really into the flamenco scene iguess, and having had time its nice to use it constructively!.

cheers for the ideas

do they actually say that??

Alatriste -> RE: silence is golden (May 7 2010 13:23:35)

Yes, silence is golden and duct tape is silver.

I close the windows in my house. However, some evenings I practice out in my front yard. When I do this out front, some neighbors come out to listen. Not that I am any good, but some like to hear music like this on quiet evenings.

Ricardo -> RE: silenece is golden (May 8 2010 10:14:12)

ignore the nieghbors and practice as normal. Eventually you will learn the timing of the loud crashes and wall banging and use it to advantage when you practice. And like wise they will eventually either confront you about it or get used to your typical practice time and make proper arrangements. If they do confront you just say, oh sorry didn't think you could hear it. When are you out of the house so I can practice full out? Most likely they won't confront you. You could confront them and say "hey, I am trying to practice up here can you please stop the banging on the walls, or I am gonna call the cops. THANKS!!!
