Hi everyone, I was wondering how to tap my foot when playing soleares and fandangos. For example do I tap 12(3), 45(6), 7(8), 9(10),11(12) for soleares and (1)23,(4)56 for fandangos? (numbers in parentheses foot tapping) Cheers, Evangelos

Well,.. its good to think about that but in the end when you´re save in compas you dont need to tap straigt the rythm with your foot. Check some performances of professional flamenco guitarrists on youtube for example. You often see em tapping very off compas, more with the the music than with the compas. If you get along with the correct compas you dont need to tap the strict compas beat.

For soleares myself, I go in and out of tapping based on what I feel. Usually if I tap it is every beat, you can get a nice groove going if you the feeling. But then I play on the slower side. But more often I don't tap at all although I will tap sometimes the 6 and the 10. I don't play any fandangos yet. But for bulerias, which you didn't ask, I like to tap every second beat. I should practice tapping every third beat, I can do it but I don't feel as comfortable with it. The music is faster and the foot tapping is easier to incorporate into your playing. At least that is my experience.

Now, is it a general rule to tap : (1)(2)3,(4)(5)6,(1)(2)3,(4)(5)6.....? what do you guys do? many thanks in advance ps: I am studying Juan Martin's bulerias from "el arte flamenco de la guitarra".

I will tap less for fast tempo palos, but I will tap every beat if the tempo is very slow. Fandangos, sevillanas, and even sometimes solea alegria jaleo or buleria and guajiras I will do like you wrote, two taps each group of 6 beats. It depends on the music and groove required at the time. majority of the time I do every other beat for bulerias, and on rare occasions I will do the famous "accents" for solea alegria or buleria. But it really depends like I said on what is happening musically or what I am accompanying. Ricardo

Good idea except your feet should be on 2,4,6,8,10,12....and palmas can do as you said but accent 1,3,7, and 9.[;)]
