Thanks Chiste, I am from the South Texas area. I played guitar for close to 20 years with a plectrum, first influenced by rock electric guitar, then by the styles of DeLucia, DiMeola, and Mclaughlin from the 'Friday Night in San Francisco' album. Even then it was obvious to me who I liked best. I played professionally backing a singer who liked the Gipsy Kings and Mexican Boleros. We also played from the music of Strunz and Farah. I started to play finger style to sound closer to the rhythms on the recordings. I would also play short pieces like Bach's 'Bouree in Emin', and 'Mood for a Day" by Steve Howe of Yes. I have now been practicing from the Koster and G.G.Martinez books and have many techniques down. Time now to start making music. So many talented guitarists here, there is a lot to draw influence from. Flamenco player Teye and his wife Belen from Austin, TX used to perform often, but not so much any more. I drew great influence from listening to them play and dance. I am going to look in to accompanying dancers from a Flamenco school that may be in San Antonio. What better way to get good!
